It was a one-man show on Thursday at the Kilgore Lions Club and the show was an artist from Nepal.
Anup Bhandari arrived in this country in 2000 to attend Kilgore College as an art student.
He graduated from KC and now attends the University of Texas at Tyler, working to obtain a bachelors degree in art.
"When I graduate from UT I want to travel back to Nepal. I haven't been
home since 2000," said Bhandari. "After that I want to return to the
United States to obtain my Masters Degree."
The 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center occurred shortly after he
arrived in the U.S. "I am going to put on an art show on 9/11 with
pieces I have done remembering and honoring those from that day," said
Bhandari.
Bhandari has created pieces as large as four-feet by four-feet and
after his show these pieces will go on sale. "I use some of the money I
make on my art to help less fortunate people in my country and I hope
once I obtain my Masters Degree to help others also interested in art,"
said Bhandari.
The art Bhandari has created over the years is displayed in his
apartment in Kilgore and Bhandari has held several art exhibits over
the past few years and has donated his art to charity events. "If
anyone wants to see my art they just have to knock on my door," said
Bhandari. "I live on the corner of Houston and South St., just knock on
the red door."
Bhandari said he has not yet determined where his 9/11 exhibit will be.
