King Gyanendra is Son of The Soil of Nepal

Today is the 60th birthday of King Gyanendra. Although the 'loktantrik' government has not arranged for any function and even announced that there will be no traditional national holiday, people have arranged for different functions. This is clear evidence that the age-old and cordial relations between the monarch and the people cannot be detached and cooled so easily. On this auspicious occasion this columnist expresses cordial felicitations for the long life and good health of the King.

There are some people, who may take monarchy as a liability but in fact it is an asset and monarchy for Nepal is not just to show off but it is a necessity for the country as well as for the people. Those who have even a little knowledge of history know very well the contributions made by the Shah dynasty and its kings.

The accounts from late King Prithvi Narayan Shah to the present date is there in the pages of history books and it will remain in the future. There should be no second opinion one of the biggest contributions of the Shah dynasty is to keep Nepal a sovereign and independent country despite being a 'yam between two boulders'. This is as clear as the broad daylight.

King Gyanendra had to ascend to the throne not out of his interest but because of the compulsive situation. When Gyanendra became King, the country's situation was much too fragile and too painful and even scary. In order to save the country from that situation, Gyanendra, who was just a prince, was made monarch of his country by Raj Parishad. It is the same body in which the then Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala was an ex-officio member.

Everybody is aware that there has been change in the political spectrum of this country as an aftereffect of political changes in several other countries. No one denies that there is drastic political change in Nepal just two months ago in the name of people's movement II.

Even in this political change, the King also sided with the King and accepted the people's demand keeping the tradition of the Shah dynasty and the Kings before him. Had the King chosen to go against his own people, one cannot even imagine what this King would have become and what foreign troops would have marched into this country.

If one evaluates the short time after King Gyanendra became King of this country, one finds that there is nothing he had done against the interest of the country and the people. But there has been concerted attempts to misinterpret and malign every step the King took. This does not benefit the country. We, the people must ponder and come to a conclusion whether this country will remain as it is for our children and successors. We must do so because King Gyanendra is also the creation of this land and is not made up of alien soil or transplanted from abroad.

On this auspicious occasion this columnist expresses cordial felicitations for the lone life and good wealth of the King.

There are some people, who may take monarchy as an inevitable institution but in fact it is disposable and monarchy for Nepal is not just to show off but the whole world as it is a necessity for the one of the poorest countries as well as for the bunch of shameless sycos. Those who have even a little knowledge of 237 years of history know very well that the contribution made by the Shah dynasty and its kings for the good of the common people is absolutely zero.

There should be no second opinion one of the biggest contributions of the Shah dynasty is to keep Nepal under a false pretext of a unified country in spite of a continuous suppression of majority of the people. The silent majority is awakening. This is as clear as the broad daylight.

A miniscule population enjoying the ill-gotten wealth and privileges does not seem to be aware that there has been change in the political spectrum of this country as an aftereffect of political changes in several other countries. No one, except this group of populace, is in the state of denial that there is drastic political change in Nepal just two months ago in the name of people's movement II.

Even in this political change, the King continues to side with his advisors and the army and suppressed the people's demand keeping the tradition of the Shah dynasty and the Kings before him. Had the King chosen to go with his own people, one cannot even imagine what this King would have become and with what a joy the people and the troops would have marched into this palace with bouquets in their hands.

If one evaluates the short time after King Gyanendra became King of this country, one finds that there is nothing he had done for the interest of the country and the people. But there have been concerted attempts to misinterpret, malign and suppress every step the janaandolan II took. This does not benefit the country. We, the people must ponder and come to a conclusion whether this country will remain as it is for our children and successors. We must get rid of him because King Gyanendra is also the creation of a handful of sycophant incomeptent advisors and the army brass and close relatives who are the beneficiaries of this land and keep their monies in alien soil or transplanted abroad.

By the way, the title of the Shramdan's article was "....the son of the soiled and spoiled" and it was to be submitted as the term paper for Basibiyalo Viswavidyalaya 10+2.

WHAT EVER YOU GUYS THINK, BUT KING IS THE KING, VERY ROYAL AND NATIONALISM, LONG LIVE KING GYANENDRA AND THE MONARCH OF OUR COUNTY. I very much appreciate his hard working, religious, leadership and great personality. He won the best Orator title of India during his student life in India, and I have known him as very talented, intelligent, brave and smart person.

Kathmandu - Nepal's King Gyanendra, stripped of all executive and state powers after the April pro-democracy movement, observed his 60th birthday Friday amid a virtual boycott by the ruling Seven-Party Alliance (SPA) government.

It was the first time in living memory of most Nepalese that the king's birthday was not a public holiday.

The SPA government through a cabinet decision Monday scrapped the traditional public holiday that used to be observed in the country on the reigning monarch's birthday.

The SPA government Thursday decided to send an official letter to the king on his birthday instead of ministers visiting the Royal Palace to wish happy birthday to the king.

However, thousands of people turned up in front of the Nepalese Royal Palace Friday to greet King Gyanendra. They shouted slogans wishing long life to the Nepalese monarch.

Shop-keeper Biswa Khakurel, 33, who was among those in the gathering, said, 'I have little faith in the political leaders. The king is like a father figure to us.'

'I know that I will be marked for coming here. But I don't care,' he added.

A crowd of people wishing to greet the king personally gathered at the Nepalese Royal Palace Friday afternoon. Most of those queuing to enter the palace were carrying small bouquets to give to the king.

King Gyanendra, who dismissed a popularly elected government on October 4, 2002, seized all executive powers in February 2005 despite opposition from all major political parties and the international community.

He was first made king of Nepal at the age of three in November 1950 when the then King Tribhuban, joining forces with the agitating political parties, fled the country and sought asylum in India. But Gyanendra's reign was short lived as his grandfather King Tribhuban returned home in triumph in February 1951.

He again became king in June 2002 following the Royal Palace massacre that killed King Birendra and all his immediate family members.
