Nepal is vulnerable... has been vulnerable for years, despite being surrounded by mighty mountains. The difference is that in the past, we were exposed to foreign invasion, and still survived. The fear now, is the fear within the boundaries.

What Nepal is going through right now was inevitable. A poor landlocked country, with educated youths spinning around without a job or any prospect. To top that we are highly influenced by our radical neighbours. Name one country with poverty lingering and unemployment to popluation ratio dangerously equal to 1, without any ongoing domestic(civil) war/problems. The icing on the cake is the present political situation where democracy has the synonym, 'my way or highway.'

Eradicating(as if that is possible) maoists might be a temporary solution, but the chaotic situation will create its new monster very soon. What Nepal needs is economical and political stability. Easy said. But how is it achievable?

My thoughts on the question will follow, lets hear yours.

Some of the so called ivy leage graduates should return home and they should be provided some dignity -- ie. say on politics. Then if some progressive youths of the generation take hold of the country, then may be it will go on right track. I don't trust these old bastards like deuba and shit anymore. we have all seen what they have done so far and they had already got too much time to prove , if they could. we should just slap them, get rid of them and put some fresh new blood as a prime minister.

The situation in Nepal looks so hopeless right now. In my opinion, the main problem in Nepal's worsening situation is the unawareness of the nepali people. They are easily misled and exploited by the corrupt netas. It's so scary to imagine the life of people in villages, thanks to the maoists and indian dacoits.

Correct answers, but we can make it more 'Right.'

Here is a question. You are a well educated youth residing in some remote village of Nepal. Your family has vested much of their property in your education and now you are frustated because there are no job matching your skill level available in the country. You keep hearing high promises from political leaders and have hardly seen it materialize; 2 months back family of your close friend were brutally traumatized by district police/army in a recent interrogation. With no potential source of income in sight what do you do when they hand you a Gun and tell you to march forth to get your 'Rights?' If not, you will probably face even worse consequence.

Maoist problem cannot be solved by killing them alone. I already zeroed in on two key points that needs to be present to solve the present plight of Nepal:
1. Economical and
2. Political Stability.

Crime rate goes up as unemployment rate goes up, no brainer (http://www.cs.umd.edu/class/spring2002/cmsc838f/Apps/presentations/Haixia_Zhao/).
Political leaders take advantage of a weak government. Both situations have to be solidified to march ahead and we have to lay foundation for that. Lets be objective and focus on the solution now. My thoughts on 'solution' will follow.

Lets tackle the issue one by one:

1. Economical Stability
This cannot be achieved without an atmosphere of political stability. Assuming that the latter is achieved, Nepal can do number of things following other nation's protocol.

Employment rate has to go up and more job creating projects should be started. Why were big stone hedges, pyramid and other structures erected? One good political reason is when the citizens are occupied in some tasks, less probability of chaos exists. Economy strenghthens and Nation creates a positive differential in exports.

When US was going through depression, Hershey's founder engaged his employees into creating the Hershey's village (PA), paying them adequate but highly negotiated salaries.

How can Nepal engage her citizens in such productive assignments? One quick solution is military. Increase the UN Quota for Nepalese Army UN would be more than happy to have more force from such underdeveloped countries. Our country will have reserve of well trained armies and do not have to pay a dime for it, instead will make money by incoming funds.

Better solution, ofcourse is by industrialization, a tougher course for a landlocked county. However, achievable. Software Industry still has potential and Garment Industry sure can profit with renegotiated quotas with Nafta countries and Europe. Energy production (Hydroelectircity) is going to be very important as the oil reserve of the world keeps on going down or getting expensive. Nepal can certainly explore these facets.

Good thing, Nepal has already started these projects, however a good political environment needs to be created for foreign investment to funnel finances.

Nepal is in a key place, being in between the potential super power of the world, China and India. Signing a favorable accord will help us prosper from the free trade between these countries.

For all these to happen Political stability is necessary. That is the tougher part.
More thoughts to follow. Please opine.

We need leaders. Leaders that can raise the national pride. Leaders that can mobilize millions of people to do the right thing. Leaders that could control the multitude and rule with an iron fist behind velvet gloves.

What we also need is national pride. That's one thing Nepal has lacked since the last SAARC Game. We haven't had an international event since then. Well, we have, but not a one with a large scale where the whole coutntry goes into support. What we need now is an olympic medal. But unfortunately, I don't think we are getting it this year.

I agree w/ everything else DWI said.

SOMEBODY TOLD ME THAT ASSOCIATION OF ASTROLOGER IN NEPAL HAS MADE JANMA KUNDALI OF NEPAL. IT SAYS THAT THERE WILL BE LOT OF BLOODSHED IN NEPAL AND AFTER THAT PPL WILL RECEIVE THE TRUE DEMOCRACY. I MEAN SO FAR THE TRUE VALUE IS NOT KNOWN. IT ALSO SAYS THAT NEPAL WILL BE IN THE PEAK OF ECONOMIC BUT IT WILL TAKE ANOTHER 60 YRS. THE LEADER IS BORN. HE WILL COME AND GUIDE EVERYONE. HE WILL LEAD THE NEPAL TO GOLDEN ERA.

i think we need leader like denjau peng who was economic reformer of china. He is responsible for the new china and the one country two system. We certainly need guy like him. i like his policy as well , i mean hate states but generate money from them, one hand in money one hand in gun for emergency.
