KATHMANDU: The Nepalese royal family, which hit the headlines in 2001 for a palace massacre, made news again with one of its members allegedly firing from a pistol in a five-star hotel here.

While it was the late Crown Prince Dipendra who allegedly sprayed bullets on his parents King Birendra and Queen Aishwarya and his siblings, the present Crown Prince Paras is believed to have let off four shots.

No one was injured in the incident that occurred at the plush Everest Hotel here.

After a gala dinner hosted in the palace to celebrate King Gyanendra's 58th birthday on Friday night, the heir to Nepal's throne went to the discotheque of the five-star hotel.

When his wife Crown Princess Himani came to pick him up, he reportedly had a tiff with a friend accompanying her and fired in the air, the Kathmandu Post reported on Sunday without however naming anyone.

In a front-page report titled "Royalty runs amok with pistol in hand", it said residents in the area were alarmed on hearing gunfire in the wee hours and alerted the police.

When security personnel rushed to the hotel, they saw the crown prince emerging, the daily added.

KATHMANDU, July 10 - Residents of the area near Hotel Everest in New Baneshwor, were woken up by the sound of gunfire at four in the morning today. Alarmed at the sound of four shots being fired in the silence of the early morning, concerned citizens informed the police control room.
At a quarter past four, police vans screeched to a halt outside the five star hotelýs main entrance, disgorging police officers who froze horror stricken, as they noticed a member of the Royal family emerging from the hotel.

According to a source, the infuriated royal family member had fired four rounds in the air when his wife went to pick him up from the Galaxy Disco, of Hotel Everest.

The source said that on Friday night, the royal family member had gone out just before the end of the dinner hosted at the Royal Palace on the occasion of HM King Gyanendraýs birthday.
