If I may...

LD is probably taking GRE in a very near future. I have been through that phase. You can't help but use those "high sounding" words. Over time, he'll come back to normalcy! [My sincere advice to you brother: Swallow the dictionary till GRE. Avoid it in your personal statement] :)

As for Xaverian's attitude, its all a matter of perception. Like every other school, some do well, some don't. Would you all stop beating the dead horse?

However, I would like to clear one misconception that Xavier's doesn't emphasize in Nepali. In my own experience, except in Grade 8, we always had better nepali teachers and students with better Nepali than in English. That is certainly surprising, perhaps even to fellow Xavs of this generation!

As for Ivy League assessment, I could use the same logic of its not a big deal of going to xavier's ;). But then I know plenty from Xavs that are in there, at this very moment, not that it means anything based on your logistics !:)

And Yes,
While there is no absolute transparency in admission process, I'd have to say it is by far the fairest means of getting to a good affordable school for all people. In my class, 75-80% were of middle class family (as in those that owned two wheeler as opposed to four wheelers) :). Whether you want to go to a good, affordable school or keep slandering it is your choice :). Suit yourself.

As for Xavier's College, it only stands as an epitome  because of all the best students from the country not because its a good college. As of now, it is prolly a institution run on "Bihari Principles"

Live For God, Lead For Nepal.
(Oh yes! I do have a xaverian spirit i.e. I am proud of my school, as anyone would be proud of theirs. Simple init?)

I kept quiet thinking that this insignificant thread started by this dumbass Sarkozy would die away but as a Xavarian it was truly disappointing to see us being repeatedly branded as egoists who are just 'good' in english and nothing else. To all the ignorant fkers and especially to Sarkozy and KathCAT, here is something that you might need to read before opening up your piehole next time:

Published in the Nepali Times:

St. Xavier\'s School in Kathmandu, started by American Jesuits with the motto "Live for God, Lead for Nepal", celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. But half a century and nearly 3.000 graduates later, it is becoming apparent that Xaverians have not shown a great enthusiasm for leading Nepal, nor are they as a group particularly religious.

Except for one Xavierian who fought and lost a seat in the 1991 parliamentary elections, there is virtually no one from St Xavier\'s who has entered the rambunctious world of Nepali politics.

Fr Lawrence Maniyar, the current principal of St. Xavier\'s Jawalakhel says: "The school\'s system of education emphasises on its students to be men of character who live for others. And there is no place in politics for such men."

Fair enough. But if the school\'s graduates are indeed so upright, then the Nepali politics and judiciary could certainly use more of them.

Achyut Gautam is one of the very few Xavier\'s graduates who has dipped his toes into the waters of Nepali politics as a leftist student leader during the Panchayat years.

He says: "St. Xavier\'s was a perfect rose garden. We only saw the real world when we came out of school. And that perhaps was one of the reasons why we couldn\'t do well in politics."

One Xavierian who became a powerful behind-the-scenes figure during the Panchayat is King Birendra\'s principal private secretary, Chiran Thapa. He says St Xavier\'s graduates were groomed to be professionals: doctors, engineers, journalists.

"And for 30 years, we had a different kind of politics. I have no doubt that with democracy, we will see Xaverians entering the fray."

Fr Casper J. Miller former principal of St Xavier\'s Godavari, thinks "The first part of the school motto, live for God\', means follow your conscience. This is precisely what Nepal needs: political leaders who follow their conscience."

But if the school hasn\'t turned out politicos,a list of illustrious alumni reads like a who\'s who of modern Nepal in other fields:

Dr Ashok Banskota, Nepal\'s foremost bone specialist, Prabhakar S.J.B. Rana, Managing Director of the Soaltee Group, Umeshwor Joshi, research analyst in particle physics at Fermi Labs in Chicago, Prajwal S.J.B. Rana, the Chief of Army Staff, Bharat Dutta Koirala, founder of the Nepal Press Institute, Shyam Bahadur KC, the editor of The Kathmandu Post, the list can go on.

St. Xavier\'s today has changed so much that the founding Fathers would barely recognise it: the boarding school at Godavari has been turned into a school for local children, the day school in Jawalakhel has (good heavens!) gone co-educational. There are branches in Jhapa, and the staff is now made up mostly of Nepali teachers and Indian Jesuits.

During the early 1950\'s the Nepali elite was packing boys off to St. Xavier\'s in Patna in search of better education. All that travelling became unnecessary after King Tribhuvan requested the Patna Jesuit Society to open a school in Nepal.
They agreed and Fr Marshall D Moran acquired a sprawling summer palace of Juddha Shamsher at Godavari to set up the school. The Nepali boys in Patna were moved to Godavari and on 1 July 1950 the school began in earnest.

Today, St Xavier\'s is a school that most parents want to send their children to. The fees here are a fraction of Fr Casper Miller and (left) the first girls to enrol in St Xaviers at play in front of the school other private English schools in Kathmandu, and the school has a student body of 960 with 38 new girls enrolled in Grade One.

Now, regarding STXC college at Maitighar, which was inaugurated in 1988, you can understand that our graduates haven't yet hit their 40s and are yet to make a mark in their respective professions. But we are getting there and I am quite confident our graduates will be renowned one day in Nepal.

Now, I am not dissing anyone who studied in government schools or other private schools in Nepal. But STXC is one of the best schools we have in Nepal for your kids and I honestly stand by this statement!

Peace!

BTW,
Sarkozy and Kath , if that still doesn't satiate your hunger, I suggest going to the following link and click on more information to peruse over though what the fugg has St. Xaviar's School been doing for the past goddamn 50 years.

http://www.stx.edu.np/School%20History.html

statement by KathCAT posted on 7/11/08:

Guys, I studied with Xavierians, st mary’sian, galaxian and so on and as well as people who were in SLC top ten, and plus two merit list wala. End of the day I out done them, I topped the class, got scholarship to study abroad. So, if you think you are down, they will further force you down, if you think you can be up you will rise eventually.

They are only good in english for sometime, you are better in all dept.

Better in all dept eh? Quite a claim you have made there! Now are you going to shove your pseudo-intellectual facade up your a** or should I do the honor?

P.S. To the readers, sorry for my offensive behavior but Sarkozy and kathCAT need to understand that we (Xavarians) are not complaining about the quality of other/their schools in Nepal and Sarkozy and kathCAT have no right to criticize us either.

Peace!

To the readers, sorry for my offensive behavior but Sarkozy and kathCAT need to understand that we (Xavarians) are not complaining about the quality of other/their schools in Nepal and Sarkozy and kathCAT have no right to criticize us either."

Started talking  like cadre of YCL, " you do not have any right..blah blah blah" yes you SXV has right to say, do you guys own patent right over the word "Right"???

Anyway, I love it when you guys...ahh forget it! painful no??

Those who rise from the struggle,  they are known as hero,  they fight against all odds, society looks up to them because of their attribute and attitude. Some people live in dilliusion and love to proclaim they are special " speciman". You are no different. Same attitude again!

Lets not just dwell on our own egos. I guess all the people who are having huge arguments in this post can safely say that they have bigger egos. What school you go to matters less than what your has taught you......All of you getting into this pointless argument will realize that this is your own ego talking....Education is not. Relax!!

Just like I said in my last comment, these fagots cathKAT and Sarkozy are trying to  aggregate people's sympathy. We don't give a shiit no matter how many people kiss ur azz, fugkers!!
They have hatred and frustrations growing up inside their body, which indeed compelled them to generate such a hypocritical hypothesis about Xavierian. I thought sajha was the nice place for any healthy discussion. But after observing such a relatively dull analysis by these dolts, cathKAT and sarkozy, I came to realize that my assumption was totally wrong.
We dont' give a fk, idiots!! Go and wank off all day long instead of blabbering here!!
If you ain't got anything to do, then go rub your balls on the wall. Do you know what a monkey does when he is about to die? He squeezes his own balls and die! Is that what you two, sarkozy and cathKAT, are trying to do??

For a person with brain- it does not matter where they went to school - they will be winners and we have the examples of it in plenty.

For rest of us - it really matters what school we went to because we spend 10 years of our time in an institution, it better be good. I still get angry with my parents for not sending me to St Mary's lol. A school with dedicated teachers is the most important thing for any children. yes, Nepal is a poor country and we have a population who are happy just to go to school but we are not talking about them right. I am talking about myself and i have parents who can afford me a good education and that might as well be at the best place.

I do not know about Rato Bangla but St.Xav, Mary's, and select few others are handful of schools dedicated to education. No disrespect to students  from other schools (especially government school, they are financially handicapped so we shouldnt even compare them)  but rest of the private institutions are money making, industralized farm.

What makes St.Xav/Marys better is because of dedicated educators, systematic/organized/experienced workforce and relative segreation from the politicized infrastructure. This system grooms adoscelence to enter maturity, atleast it gives you a better shot at doing it.

So, my argument is ,

-- Coming from a good school doesnt equate to good individual/student.

-- Being educated in "industrialized ambience" doesnt neccessary make one inept or incapable, large factor of it depends in individuals urge and desire.

-- I do concur that coming out of  organized/capable institution gives you a better shot at being successful in any aspect of life, it helps you make unbiased/balanced decisions.

I am former St.Xav student and obviously my heart sings to its tune but one thing I have realised is that the education strucure that I went through in the early and late 90s is still as good as here in North America. We are educated in so many extra curricular activites, it has helped us adapt to different scenarios.

Yo Fugass KATHCAT YOU JUST SAW YOUR OWN REFLECTION IN YOUR OWN WORDS. YOU ARE NOT TRYING TO GATHER SYMPATHY BUT THROWING MUDD AT PEOPLE. YOU CAN FUGGING FLUSH YOUR FUGGING DEGREE DOWN THE TOILET CAUSE IT HAS NOT CHANGED YOUR MINDFRAME ONE BIT..... KUKUR KO PUCCHAR BARAAA BARSAMMA SOOJYAII NI BANGO KO BANGAII. YOU CAN BOAST ABOUT YOUR DEGREE AND YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENT ALL YOU WANT BUT YOUR MIND IS STILL THE SIZE OF A PEANUT.

My theory on steps of learning new thing- goes out to all the active participants of this thread.

First step : you learn (hear/see/read)
Second Step: Frustrations- for contradicting to your existing beliefs
Third step: Acknowledgment of contradiction
Fourth Step: Logical decision
Fifth step : Implementation/realize/feel

You all people are in the first and second step of learning. Some of you did not know that St. Xav was not 'all good' in creating building out of rubble of ordinary student due to various factors such as opportunity, capability etc. You know that you cannot deny that a good student in छाप्रे village in remote Myagdi district cannot get such opportunity even though his parents might have enough money, or he had talents. Not all get the opportunity. Some of you did not know that St. Xav. at least tries to be of good educational standards and thus is better than normal joe government schools. Also, there are students from such regular joe schools that are way better than those from St. Xav. You guys know that but you cannot acknowledge that fact. You people are bunch of frustrated craps that fail to understand that there is contradiction in your own feelings. Both the arguements are valid, but you deny that. Accept that both the sides are correct in their own way, and you will reach the third step. You do not have to think about other steps now.
Peace.
