Folks,
I'm going home this winter for the first time in like 3 years...and I plan on doing something that average Nepalese don't ( like trekking, hiking etc. ).
Any suggestions on places to visit, things to do...while in Kathmandu, nearby places or around Nepal?

I very well understand what he is asking for. But, the way he asked reflects that He/ She is not an Average Nepali and that has to do with the fact that he stayed in US for three years, THREE YEARS which also made him forget everything about own hometown.
I am a bahun and a racist. You got that right! at least.

Seriously its not a big deal if bidroh said "average nepali" I am guessing what he meant was - what most of nepalese do when they go back from the US ... but I can also understand dimag gettting upset with not choosing the right words that can initiate argument. I dont know why we have to bring jaath paath into everything and of course namaste had to throw in his profiling. We nepalease will never change. We are the most racist pigs out there. We profile everyone and every race and sub races. Its a friday lets end this thread on a good note and go home happy. Bidroh : 1) Take a helicopter tour 2) White water rafting on kayak (yea yea most of you have done it) 3) Go to a most remote village in Nepal spend a weekned there as one of them. 4) If you enjoy trance - find out - its crazy the way they do it in Nepal...tons to do...enjoy your trip

People change overnight. I've changed 10 times since I got here. Relatively speaking, everyone who's come here has gone through same changes. If memory serves me right, you applied your idiotic assertiveness to my topic where I asked people to relate to the problem that I was facing - problem pertaining to people's expectations (iphones, laptops, gaming consoles).
Mucho_fiesta, one of the perks of having a cousin who works in tourism sector ( he's a pilot who flies choppers ) is taking a helicopter flight. Like I aforementioned, I took things like that for granted as my priorities and interests were different. Not sure about white rafting during the winter season....
Isn't it funny that Nepalese take tourism for granted? We tend to see it as a source of income for the country in General but we do little to promote it. There are plenty of people who make shitload of money but very few people travel around for recreation - I know for sure that my family never took a vacation outside the valley.
Glad Sna, Kathmandu_kathmandu and others got what I was asking.
Open to more suggestions.

Well: Good luck have fun. It has been a while we have seen your travel plan, should I visit India first or Nepal ? And almost ended into a leg pulling game. Let see your input after your Nepal visit. Many of us may not have been to Nepal for a decade and your input may help us. We read rahulbhai's "Nepal Yaatra".

ah-I remember it now, Bhojpure. Sure thing, I'll definitely try to share my experiences. Btw, its not that I haven't made up my mind on what I'm gonna do back home. I was just hoping to come across a different perspective. Some tend to spend the entire time period with families while some have resorted to touring and traveling places.
I've seen mixed reactions from my friends about their trips. Some have mentioned how 4-6 weeks felt relatively short while others "didn't like what they saw" and were "disgusted with the neverchanging political chaos, pollution" and what not. I'm going home purely for enjoyment and I doubt pollution, slow speed of internet, loadshedding etc will have any large impact.
As they say, there's no place like home. Je jasto bhaye pani, afno ghar ra afno desh sabai lai pyaro lagcha ni.

Just the fact that we are born in Kathmandu, does not mean that we should ignore the thousands of people who resides outside of kathmandu.

I've never implied or hinted that I'm better than anybody else. But the fact is, an average Nepali is uneducated, poor and doesn't think of trekking,rafting etc as his choices of recreation purely because of his problems pertaining to his struggles of providing for his family.
Where have I suggested that I've forgotten where I came from? As a matter of fact, by stating the condition of average Nepalese, I'm shedding a rational view of what Nepal and Nepalese really are. And I'm not ashamed of my country either. Where did you get that idea from, I wonder.
When I go out drinking in Thamel, I plan to welcome the Westerners and ask them how they feel - something an average Nepali wouldn't. We all came here to improve our lives, think differently and gain a different perspective. Don't jump onto assumptions and come up with conclusions in a flash. What's next? You're gonna assume that I'm gonna spend the rest of my life here?
Had I stayed back home, I bet I'd still have my maids serve me breakfast, do my laundry and do the chores that I don't do here. I got sick and tired of it and decided to come here, experience what it felt like to working on my own and try to fund my college expenses albeit I need to seek the help of my parents like many others. I could've gone to Nepal's best college for cheaper costs but I doubt I'd have learned to think critically and look at things with a different approach.

We "rescued" them from a remote village of Nepal, providing them with food, clothes and salary while their 2 kids have been admitted to a local school. They were making less 3,000 rupees ( combined ) back in their village. Timro ghar ma exploit garya chan jasto cha. Don't relate your personal case to mine man. what's up wid "typical nepali" term? I know you are repeatedly using this term so as to misrepresent Nepal. You got a mindset that "Typical Nepali" people are useless. They like to dig their noses in other's business. No wonder the term "pakhe" originated from people like you.
Not to forget, your parents are "typical nepali" too who were raised in one of those villages with "typical nepali mindset". Its only you who was brought up in cities and never bothered to appreciate and respect so called "Typical Nepali" or even "Pakhes".
"Typical Nepali Mindset" has to do with the cultures that you were raised with. Following a positive aspects of that does not hurt anyone. And, i cannot stand anyone with a degradatory remarks for my fellow citizens.
