doesn't matter where u study, depends on ur ability. however, i think, most private/boarding schools in Nepal are opened for business not to develop or prepare a nepalese to survive in today's market.

someone told me this:

difference between good schools and not so good schools is,

"average students of good schools are always better than average students from not so good school.  however, the best can come from any school".  meaning, average students of MIT are definitely better than average students from other average schools from here or else where.  however, the best in MIT is not necessarily the best overall.  i agree with this statement.

therefore, kathcat might be very good student from not so good school in nepal and able to show his potential when he/she got an opportunity.  however, not all students who go to some schools in village with lack of qualified teachers will be able to compete in this competitive environment.  Very good students will always excel, but we have to think about overall student's performance.  we can not take a single example and generalize which school is good or bad.  i am sure many students from rural area in nepal who do not have good exposure can perform well if given an opportunity.  however, it is not wise to say that average student from some rural school can compete with average student from top school in kathmandu.  many students from rural area can not even afford to go to school or college after slc.  They have to find a job to support their eduation.  in such situation, it is very difficult to compete with one who has strong background in school and all the facility needed to perform well.  its not only about who is more talent, it is also about opportunity.  talent can come from any part of the society, but opportunity are there only for those who can afford it.  i am sure there are thousands and thousands of students from rural area who can do very well if they are given opportunity but they dont have such opportunities.  It is also wrong to think superior just because one goes to certain elite school in nepal.  It is not only because of your talent, it has to do with your guardian's capacity to spend money on education.

Maybe I read in a preceeding post, or heard it on TV lastnite, but here's something worth considering. People peak at different ages. The example cited was that of HS Prom Kings and Queens, who are at the peak of their popularity when they are 16 or thereabouts. How many of these Kings and Queens still remain popular during college and into the future? Hardly any. Same with early achievers. Some kids are brilliant at school, some find their 'bodhi_gyan' in college, yet others are struggling to find it throughout their careers and marriages etc.

Some STX, BKNS etc (and now Rato Bangla??) kids peaked when they were there. Whatever happened to the ones that were just roll-numbers in schools? I am at Sajha. The early peaks are now virtually lost in their early glory, which hasn't taken them much anywhere.

StX or not, it is not the school that matters, and as Ka BRB said, a lot depends on the teachers, environment, and the students' hard work and motivation. Striking the right balance is the tricky bit. Many eons ago, there was (and maybe there still is) a school in Janakpur Anchal, BastiPur Ma Vi, whose alumni make the Who's Who of Nepal. It was before StX/BKNS and after Durbar HS. There was something just right about Bastipur in those days. It produced the future doctors, engineers, thinkers, teachers, bankers, lawyers, politicians.. and farmers (and the JTTM). There are many more schools in Nepal like that, and there will always be.

As I said on a different thread, it is not StX or BKNS that determines one's destiny. Rather it is one's own willingness to take risks, challenges, and be passionate about what they do. Some learn these tricks in their family, others develop these skills in schools. And some schools are better than others at providing opportunities for these skills. Still some couldn't be bothered at all. But the measure should be 'what is that person giving back to the society?'

Yeah, 'what have you, from whatever school you are from, have you given back to the society, to the humankind?'

_x

A4, I 100% agree with you. But somepeople from these elite or popular school  has this "ego" problem and think as if they are invincible and the best than the rest.

As you said  "its not only about who is more talent, it is also about opportunity.  talent can come from any part of the society, but opportunity are there only for those who can afford it " To elaborate on the issue of affordability, one should understand it is not only the issue of tuition fee, for rural people,  cost of living should be also taken into account, like you do in US. They often miss this point and continuously argue some of these schools are affordable, but they do  not realize it is affordable to those only who live in KTM city.

Do people really give more respect to students of stx or ratob? The answer is relative.

It's like asking do people give more respect to people returning to Nepal from the US?

My answer is simply some do and some don't and it's their right to respect whoever they choose. It maybe the bheda attitude that makes people respect someone in supposedly good standing versus another in a supposedly bad or average standing. I think it's a natural phenomena. If you get to meet with Bill Gates you will probably be nicer to him and more respectful than if you met with a regular Joe working at starbucks.

If I was richer than Bill Gates I probably wouldn't give a shiet.

Axara,

"Some STX, BKNS etc (and now Rato Bangla??) kids peaked when they were there."

katheyCAT ! oops kathCAT,

It would be nice if you would bother to address me as a "LahureDai" instead of "Lahure". Dont let other people to realize how well educated and respectful are you. Unlike me, your comments won enough plaudits from my fellow sajhaities for being decorous and pleasing ,so don't disenchant them by addressing me brusquely.Come on dude, you could be more courteous and urbane as you learned your manner from your surrounding and context :-)

kathCAT sir, I can see  the tone of truculence in your every comments. Every time when you reply me you go into a lengthy tirade, blaming us, Xavierians for having an ego. I dont have to tell you but I think it is worthy to repeat it again here : dont judge the book by looking at its cover, son. I agree, you might have been abased by few students of Xavier's, but that doesn't give you proper rights to strut on our name. That is the main reason why I am being so solicitous about this thread. Otherwise, I have better things to do than just replying mentally feeble and pharisee guy like you. The most fuuny yet asinine sh*t you did was that you wrote "you can not compare apple and oranges" . How come you forget  you were comparing  Dr. Upendra Devkota with Dr. Arun Baskota in your last comment. Just like St. Xavier's and other schools are good in their own perspective,  Dr. Devkota and Dr. Baskota are good in their own  respective field. Be stiff in your logic instead of being a recalcitrant ,so that its makes sense, dummy! what a crass this guy is!

AAAA and JharekoPaat,

Despite your busy time, thanks for stopping by and dropping your discerning thinking. I wholeheartedly respect that. Two thumbs up to AAAA and JharekoPaat.

Sarkozy,
We, majority of  Nepalese, are not Americanized yet.I consider myself a FOB in this alienated land, so I am assuming that every Nepalese are familiar with the scenario outlined by that newspaper article. Talking about me personally, that article is somewhat very quibble than what I have actually seen in real life. I know many folks in real life going through even  worse situation than depicted in that article, so that news is no surprise for me. I think it applies to all Nepalese.
BTW, I am not sure about my friend George, who has become a die-hard fan of sajha after Nas started uploading pictures of hot chicks. This news may be somewhat queer to him. I will try my best to explain him about the scenario portrayed in that newspaper article.

My main point is please stop making grimy jokes about one's identity. None should make a tediously dull  hypothesis just by judging few people.  We all human got equal brain that everybody's brain is divided into cerebrum, cerebellum and medulla oblangata, so it is up to us how we utilize it.

Thanks,

Lauredai,

Some Excerpts from your comments

“We need brain to learn language...dont you? Probably you dont but I do.”

Being good at just one (English) language does not make you an intelligent. Chinese are giving hard time to US. Japanese are doing great. The both countries in Asia, one evolved out from world war-ii and one from civil war( communist) now, are in a strong postion in world economy than those of English speaking country.  What you need is the overall potential not just a command over a particular language. Agree?? Again I am not denouncing the importance of English. But some people feel so proud just because of they have good english which I find is absolutely stupid.

“You have to concur at the point that you got “typical villagers attitude”- later edited “typical stupid attitude”

What can I say about it?

“I know you are somewhere working in third class job and you are saying that you beat Xavierians,Marian, and other brilliant students. You are an avid fantasizer dude.”

Even I am working what you consider third class job, by now being in US, you should have learnt to respect the dignity of work at first place. As you are from very good school, father should have taught you that basic or did you miss that class? Yes I am a taxi driver and Janitor.

Once a villager told me this poem when I was a kid “ upakari guni byakti, nihurincha nirantara, faleko brikchya ko hango najhuke ko kahan chara”. I guess being SXV, you also would be good at Nepalese literature, if not; this is a piece of poem written by Kabi Siromani Lekhnath Paudyal.

Learn to respect all the professions, they all have important role to play in the society where you living and  enjoying all the contemporary facilities.

“There is no doubt  that we got more knowledge than you even though you keep on avowing that you are the man with high dexterity.”

No need to say you( as you said we SXV) got more knowledge everybody would have known by now.

“Oh my fkn god!” “nugatory sh*t!”- use this kind of word too often and expect respect from the others???? I do not know how to use it.

Coming back to my apple and oranges, in my all posting I did not say local schools ( as schools) are better than sxv, rb, or bnk and comparing those would be like comparing apple and oranges. But when it comes to the product, like the way you love to generalize ( fantasize in your own words, good that you hate fantasizer) “we got more knowledge”,  you just can not buddy! When it comes to product, it is completely upto individual’s potential. That was the reason why I gave example of you Dr. Devkota ( a typical villager) and Dr. Baskota ( very urbane). I do not think both are diamonds, Dr. Devkota is way ahead I guess you would also agree.

As you mentioned in your earlier postiings SXvV, BKNL get/got admission in IVY Leagues more than the others, unfortunately facts stands on contrary to your fantasy. Just go and find data on Ivy League colleges how many SXV got there and how many non SXV got there. Like I said you would be disappointed. So I do not know who is fantasizing here!

Oh yeah this is for your wisdom, Kul Chandra Gautam” –former assistant general secretary of UN (highest rank any Nepalese got in UN), went to Princeton, he also happens to be a typical villager from GULMI district. Here is the link.

http://nepaleseingoettingen.blogspot.com/2007/12/kul-chandra-gautam-biography.html

Again, Dr. Ambika Prashad Adhikari, former chief of IUCN Nepal, and first Nepali go get PHD from Harvard, is also happens to be a typical villager from Bhojpur. Importantly not from SXV.

So I suggest you to do some research before drawing any hypothesis.

Oh yeah, I heard you love to cut me into 50pcs. Some one from shout box told me. Stay away from such defeated mentality, not good for health for a talent like you. Calm down!

Lahure Dai,
When I read your postings in this thread, I got reminded of the following quote by C.S. Lewis: "Don't use words too big for the subject. Don't say 'infinitely' when you mean 'very'; otherwise you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite." I don't mean and attempt to offend you but your overall writing and the way you present here reflects the attitude that this thread is really attempting to uncover: that the students of the so called elite school are hypocrite, verbose and showy. Sometimes, the use of verbosity does in fact have a political implication-- to use words as a weapon to rule over the common folks who don't understand without the help of a dictionary. Is that what you are trying to do? Is that the way you are trying to disengage your cult "XAVARIAN" with the rest of others?

Contrary to what you seem to believe, simple writing is not the product of "village attitude". A simple, unpretentious style has both grace and power. By not calling attention to itself, it allows the reader to focus on the message. I would not unnecessarily preach you about the use of language here but since you "implied" so many time that you guys are really good in terms of English language, I tried to feel the "Xavarian" nerve! What do you want us to focus while we're reading your thread? Compel us to frequently turn dictionary? Let me drag some of your pretentious and pompous wordings which in fact reflect your Xavarian mentality:

plaudits
decorous
disenchant
brusquely
truculence
solicitous
recalcitrant
......many more

At the same time, see the context and consistency of such words: in no time he mixes the filthy four lettered words with the "Xavarian" words to make a lingual porridge (पिन्ड बनाउन ). Stop it boy! Did the Father instruct you to make सराद्धे of English this way?

At the same time, see the context and consistency of such words. Stop mixing up the filthy four lettered words with the "high sounding" words to make a lingual porridge (पिन्ड बनाउन ) in a way to do unholy सराद्धे of English.
