RIP

The Tourism Ministry is all set to retrieve the body of 19-time Everest summitter Chewang Nima Sherpa who was killed in an avalanche near the summit of Mt. Baruntse a month ago.

Ministry spokesperson Laxman Prasad Bhattarai said that a ground search mission has been formed under the coordination of Pemba Gyelzen Sherpa. “We will start the mission soon as there will be heavy snowfall in winter making it difficult to reach the accident site and recover the body,” said Bhattarai.

He added that Nima’s family had requested that the body be retrieved within 49 days of death by when funeral rites have to be conducted. “We have collected Rs 875,000 so far but we need Rs 2.4 million for the rescue mission,” he said.
