HI,

I am currenlty in UAE. I want to visit USA this june.
I have 2 reasons for it, 1. i have long medical issue, met with an accident in 1997 was hospitalized for almost 4 years and later was in and out for short periods. Problem now is, doctors in Nepal, India and Neither in UAE are able to diagnose what is going wrong? I am taking 10 tablets a day since past 5 months and some have even suggested to remove my kidneys. I believe given a right specialist this issue can be solved without the stated consequence.
2. i want to meet my cousins whom i have not met since 15 years.

Please suggest me which type of visa i should apply and how should i apply. Except my passport i have nothing with me, all the documents are in home.

And from December 2014, I am here working as the clinical speech language pathologist and the public relation officer in a private clinic.

Sorry to hear about your health. The 2nd option is a definite. No-No for getting visa. It's very unlikely that u will be granted US visa just because u want to see ur cousins.

Now regarding the first option of medical treatment, u should be able to get visa if you could provide following.
1. Medical assessment and referral from your doctors recomnending u to go to US for additional treatment
2. Medical cost coverage: Proof of your medical coverage while in US. If u dont have insurance or ur current insurance does not cover the costs in US, u have to provide the proof of financial support. For the type of treatment you are talking about, the medical bills will easily top several tens of thousands of dollars with no insurance. You have to first talk to the doctors in US who can provide u approximate cost of treatment. For visa interview, u have to show proof of support of those costs in addition to ur living costs during ur stay.

thank you ny2 for your concern and reply.

yes i have researched about the medical visa but it will be too much to cover, i mean i will not be able to get an approximate cost because till now the doctors are not able to locate the system which is affected, hence i don't know whom to consult in US. My idea is to come there and meet the physician show him my reports and get the advice on the diagnosis. As i have insurance here and any medication prescribed in US is available here so will carry on with the treatment here.

Can you provide me the advice on what will be the best reason to get tourist visa? i have a good job here, and income is quiet good. and they will write any kind of letter to consulate like vacation, work bonus, official tour, etc. so that i can get the visa.

what is your intention of visiting USA. Is it only Medical treatment? Since, it is very difficult to get visa just to see your cousins.
If its medical treatment, like another dude mentioned, you should have doctor's recommendation, and proof of financial support. For the type of condition you are mentioning, the cost is hundreds of thousands dollars (e.g city scan is $7000.00 in my city). Its totally ridiculous to go hospital without insurance. As a foreigner, you should be really rich or prove them so, to come for treatment.
Good luck

Based on what you are saying, you cannot mention the medical reason since you cannot show hundreds of thousands of dollars of financial support. The only option is the tourist visa.
Not trying to discourage you but want to let you know how difficult it is to get a tourist visa. Last time I went to the US embassy in KTM for H1 visa, a lady next to me was so proudly telling me that she works for NGO and earns more than RS 3 lakhs a month in Nepal and she was applying for a tourist visa just to visit New York for a week. She showed me her credentials and paperworks and she was definitely earning 3 lakhs a month. After I my h1 visa was approved, i waited outside for that girl and asked her when she came out. She told me the visa officer told her he did not see any reason for her to visit NY and denied the visa.

However, you can give it a try. Tell your cousins to provide you an invitation letter. From your side you need letter from your UAE employer stating the vacation you have been given and you annual income. You will need any property valuation you have in Nepal, any family relations certification which will show you tie back to Nepal. You need to show your hotel booking and airline booking for the time you mention. Then you need to show sufficient financial support (bank balance, income) during your stay in US. Good luck, but i will be really surprised if you get the visa.

Not sure how much you earn, but let me ask you one question which visa officer will definitely ask you, "What will stop you from living and working in US illegally and not returning back once you arrive in US?".

@ Namko.....Visiting doctors without insurance is out of question in USA. It is easier to visit doctors in Nepal rather than USA. The US medical system is extremely complicated.

Have you tried Ayurvedic hospitals in India? This might be an alternate option if your health problem has not become that bad. All disease are caused due to the imbalance in Vata, Pitta, and Kapha and Ayurveda deals with this imbalance in a very holistic way. Even cancers in initial stage are treated by Ayurveda. I suggest you check with authentic Ayurvedic Hospitals in India. This is also a cheapest option for you.

You will have to apply for a Visit Visa (B2, also known as Tourist Visa) whether your primary purpose of visit to United States is Family Visit or Medical Treatment. In order to qualify for this visa classification, you'll have to convince the consular officer that you'll return to your home country or country of residence (UAE). This means, they will be looking at your social, economic and family ties while adjudicating your application during the interview.

If you seek for Medical Treatment, on top of the above requirement, the consular officer may ask you further documents at the time of interview, which may include -
- Reason for coming to U.S. (why not other countries which offers almost the same standard of medical treatment as in US
- Medical diagnosis from the local Physician eg, reports, treatment history etc
- Letter from Medical Facility in US, stating that they are ready to treat your specific ailment detailing projected cost and length of treatment
- Evidence of financial resources which shows you have enough funds to cover the treatment cost, living cost etc

Qualifying for a U.S. visa is definitely not easy. However, you should not give up your hope as thousands of people like you qualify for it every day. Seeking for Med will make your case harder but if you qualify for a Visit/Tourist visa (without mentioning them that you're coming for treatment), you'll not have any problem undergoing treatment. I mean you do not have to apply for change of status or anything as B2 visa is good for Treatment as well.

hope this is helpful.

@ujl thank you for your advice, this is my 17th year after the accident and i am under ayurvedic treatment as well.

what i believe is the specialist here are well equipped but not skilled, as i have had 18 major surgeries during this period, new doctors whom i consult are not willing to take any further risk and the old one has no idea why i have developed this new symptom of constant pain.

any ways guys it looks unrealistic about coming to US as a foreigner. I am eligible to apply for H1B, but have no intention of working in USA, as i want to be near home and m here just to have an abroad experience and sum up some money to start my own rehabilitation center back home.

@ark thank you for your suggestion and just to answer your question
i don't see any good reason why do i have to work illegally in the country where i can work legally with my job title. (this is the fact)

@USVisa Ex Employee thank you for your suggestion, this is actually my impulsive and spontaneous idea out of frustration being in pain. I don't have huge cash but have around 8000$ to spend in my account. As my friends have suggested if i be there i can meet the doctors personally and ask them for treatment grant which is available for complicated cases.
do you think should i give it a try? i want to as this would be my final conciliation so as not to get frustrated that i did not try.
What are the documents that i need to show them to apply for visit visa? My clinic is willing to pay for the flight tickets as well if i am to go. But i will not be staying in any hotels as i will go to my cousin who are finding out the hospitals where they have a provision of research diagnosis.

@Namko...the reason i asked that question is u will have prepared urself with good answer in case the visa officer asks u such type of questions because the main thing the visa officer wants to see is you have no intention of staying or working in US. But if u answer that to the visa officer, you will hamper ur likelyhood of getting visa.

You said why would you work illegally in the country where you can work legally with your job title? What makes you say that you can work legally in US with your job title? The visa officer might think you have intention of finding the job and working in US (legally) which is strictly prohibited for people with tourist visa and might deny you of visa.

My 2 cents suggestion, you should prepare yourself with answers like you never intend to live or work in US as you have your family back in Nepal which you cannot leave, you have good job at your current place and lots of property in Nepal, so there is no reason for you to live or stay in US. This is intended for visit only... like those sort of things.

Namko - I think everyone answering to this thread are trying to help you with the best of their knowledge and experience.

If you think you qualify for H1B that would be the best option for you.

you can bring any documents to the interview you have and which you think will be helpful to prove your residency and ties. if i were you I would bring pay stubs, tax docs, property docs, bank statements, shares, investments, employment/business history, civil docs eg, marriage/birth certificates, travel history, documents showing affiliation to business/community organization, awards to prove my ties.

Pls remember - you need to prove reasons why you ll come back NOT WHY YOU WANT TO GO. However, people all the time believe following documents are needed (reason to travel to US) - invitation/support letter, hotel booking, airline booking manifest, travel insurance, Valuation, police record etc. You may bring some or any of these documents too as they won't harm your case but will not be material in demonstrating your qualification.

best

Saathi,
Why people think that US is the only place in the world that has best medical system? It's too expensive!!!!!(I mean it). Why don't you try other European countries/Singapore.? They have equally good medical system and might be easier to get visa.

U heard google boy from Nepal? His parents want him to bring to USA for treatment. Well, I don't understand this. Why not other countries? सुशील कोइरालालाई पो नेपालीले तिरेको करबाट उपचार हुञ्छ र उनि अमेरिका आउछन, अरुले त सकिदैन हो

@ ark and @ usvisa exemployee..

Thank you guys for your advice and wishes. It looks very difficult to try to do it. I am not a sadist but things are very messed up in my end. I am alone here and to collect all these documents i need some time, if till that time surgery can be on hold, i will give an attempt. Or else there is no point. Will try to fight ahead as i have been doing. Thank you guys.

I think i will start writing my case to hospitals in U S , australia and europe.
Thank again and God bless you all

I think you could try and get in contact with some of the big teaching hospitals in the U.S. (Johns Hopkins etc). There have been cases where these hospitals have treated patients (domestic and foreign) for free or minimal costs in very rare circumstances. So, you could try that approach as well.

I would suggest H-1B but the filing starts today (4/1). Most likely, the quota is going to be filled within days. I do not think there is any chance for that this year.

Others above have provided good suggestions, but I would encourage you to keep fighting man. Something will work out. In the meantime, keep looking for alternative in other countries as well.

I am off tracking this thread, probably. But I want to highlight how expensive the cost of treatments have now become in US. You will find lots of NY times and WSJ research articles on the topic. My recent one day ER visit and 2 nights stay ended costing me 5000 out of my pocket on top of what insurance had already covered, 19000. Well, that may not be exactly relevant to your case but all threaders in this post have unanimously agreed that health care costs are crazy here.
Since as a visitor, in your particular case, you might not be visiting ER. A general practicing or specialists medical centers might want you to pay upfront at the door. This is just so that you know.
Having said that, some of the Hospitals and Medical facilities are world class and may be really effective in your prognosis. One thing that many have also agreed and something that may be helpful in your decision. While ER care and immediate care, like surgeries, have delivered best in the class results amongst developed nations, US lags far behind when it comes to long term care, for example diabetes, chirrosis etc.

@guest4 thank you bro, yes i am planning to write to as much hospitals as i can in hope that something might come up. I believe and have strong faith as i am as my parents quote "in second life" after 4 years of almost continous hospitalization in my foot and away from home earning for my family.

This would be my last text as i do not have anything else to share except some sad sentimental things. And meanwhile if something great happens will write it to you just let you know what i have done. In the first text by mistake i have written kidneys, they are planning to remove one kidney but doctors themselves cannot decide wether that is a right move to heal me or not.

Thank you all.. A friend suggested me this site and must say it is really great to see people united. Keep up the good work guys.

Have.a great time ahead.

Just one more request if anyone knows any such organizations or hospitals i can forward my medical records. Thanks once again
