I have installed ubuntu 10.04 server edition. Does anybody know how to connect wireless internet. I tried to add GUI using command $ apt-get install ubuntu-desktop but it didnot work, i guess it is due to no internet connection. I cannot update any packages either.

Install desktop version of Ubuntu 10.10. You will get WLAN support with ease. For server version it is not that straight forward (google it).

http://biz.sajha.com/sajha/html/openthread.cfm?threadid=826091)Make sure you have correct drivers installed following the commands posted by other users above 2)Sometimes and wireless is disabled from the software level and I think that is bug in earlier version of ubuntu 10.x.So open this file in Vi nano pico or any editor /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state Ex:sudo nano /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state and there are three flags there so turn on this flag to true NetworkingEnabled=true 3)Use have to save the file and restart the machine to make this configuration changes. Don't switch the hardware wireless on and off switch in the process. This problems frequently when you trun off computer during cold boot so have to do again and again. Hope that helps Also try Wifi Rader Wicd tools that might help you connect wireless better.
