Over the past year I have spoken to a lot of people in the area I live in regarding how they are teaching their children to read and write in Nepali.

If you have a child betweeen 8-13 years old. Have you taught them to read and write in Nepali?

Is this important to you?

Do your children like to learn?

What kind of materials do you use?

I'm very curious to hear your answers. Please share.

Schadule part of your weekend for Nepali teaching. In weekdays they will be busy with other homeworks. Once they learned Nepali letters, They will try to make word construction same way they learn english in school.  Most important thing is they need to keep practicing every weekend.

Nepali comedy show (Meri bassai, jire khursani, tito satya, Hari bahadur madan bahadur etc) may help to learn some nepali words. It is working on my case at least for now.

My son is quite small, 3 and half years, and I wanted to teach him Nepali. I let him watch some Nepali shows and hear Nepali songs. I also constantly talk with him in Nepali, although most of the time he replies back in English.
Right now he can write almost all the English letters, but only handful of Nepali letters. He recognizes Nepali numbers easily.

I created this website for him to learn Nepali games.wondernepal.com.

It has simple games about Nepali letters, numbers, rhymes, colours, shapes, etc for children to learn and play. It also has writing practice sheets which you can print out and write letters and words on it.
