With caste related threads raising its ugly head in sajha every few months, it is evident that a lot of us are very much influenced and affected by our castes in spite of us living in the 21st century, specially when most of the visitors have migrated outside of Nepal for better opportunities.

Yesterday, the movie "Acceptance" was showing in Massachusetts (link) and I happened to go watch it since I knew the folks organizing the show. There was not a very big turnout - mostly people who were informed by words of mouth who came to watch it.

Most of us have very bad memories of Nepali movies and want to stay away from those as much as we can specially because of heavy influence from hindi movies. Most likely many people avoided it for the same reason. I went there expecting to see the stereotypical Nepali movie with song and dance and dishum dishum like in hindi movies. The movie turned out to be above my expectations and in fact a good change from the regular stereotypical Nepali movies.

The scenery was very breathtaking and reminded of how beautiful our country is. The movie plot being based in village depicted the intricacies and simplicity of village life which was a very humbling change from the usual hustle bustle we are exposed to by american TV shows. The acting was natural and the main message of Acceptance was the most important part of the movie.

This is definitely one of the few good Nepali movies I have seen in a while and I recommend everyone to watch it. In fact, if it is possible, this movie should be shown in villages in Nepal, where the caste differences plays a very big role in people's lives. This movie can be an eye opener for many.

What an outstanding movie!!  I never thought Nepali films could be this good. Direction is professionally done by Rabi Aryal. Leading actor Suresh Marahatta and leading actress Carla Bacheche have done wonderful job. Carla you did a good job !!!!

What I like the most of , in this movie is .....it is diffirent then Indian movie and Jharpate (Stolen) Nepalimovie. Like San wrote, no Dhisum...Dhisum.

FIRST NEPALI ART MOVIE !!!!!! WORTH TO WATCH !!

This film gives one the insight of the true Indigenous culture of Nepal. It is heart breaking to see that the caste system is still being perpetrated in our country, and the unhappiness it still causes. Perhaps one day, Nepal will come of age and see that no matter where and person comes from, that all are human beings and equal in the eyes of the Great Sprit.

I would like to thank Acceptance team for wonderful job.

I think this movie is a different than other nepali movies because movie has several messages for all the neplease who is staying out side of the country so guys go for it once who knows, this kind of story might be going on in side of your own real life.

Trikal,

I might agree with everything you say since i have not seen acceptance. Although, you might be little excited by claiming it has First Nepali Art Film. Don't know which one is first nepali art film but how could you forget "Basudev".

Two Thumbs Down!!! Sorry!! I really mean it. I love interracial dating. But I am just curious. How often do we see an interracial couple in our Nepalese community gathering in the United States? Yes, in US. What I meant to say is if our young and educated generation are not ready for it then Why the writer of the movie wants to drop A-Bomb on those innocent parents living in a remote village in Nepal? I think they are not even ready to accept to see marriage taken place among other casts in their own society. We need to educate the people from inside out not outside in.

Know where I can buy the DVD?

Not the pirated one, but the legitimate DVD.  I want the money to go to the people who made the movie.

SIS has a very important and valid point. I really would like to hear from the director, writer, or actor points of view. I also would like to ask question to those Nepalese who have been living here for a while in US, Would you  let your 18 year old daughter/ son to live with her/ his  bf/gf who happens to be black or spanish or white? At first place,  parents won't even let their kids specially daughters to be friends with black guys and Spanish guys. THE MAIN ROOT OF THE PROBLEM IS IN THE US. NOT IN THAT REMOTE VILLAGE OF NEPAL. BICHARA BUDHA BUDHI LAE DOSH DIYARE KE GARNEY!!!

The more you focus on it, the more of a self fufilling prophecy it becomes.

Please lets not generalize that parents wont allow this or that..

If someone is abroad, they have obligation towards parents but they
also have something they didnt really have back home. Freedom of choice.

If you wanna smoke pot/crack and waste your money. Its you're choice.

If you wanna pay $10 to watch Spanish documentary on why polar bears are crying in Antarctica, your choice.

By saying parents wont allow, you are assuming that parents have 100% control which in MOST situations is never true.

If you wanna go out with a person of a different culture, the only
thing stopping you is your own views. I feel people of my generation
(20s) are intimidated by the social pressure put by the older
generations.

We are lead by convictions of the older generation that doing such and
such is 'bad' or will lead to 'imbalance' or some other negative stuff.
Their convictions were correct, back in the day, given their situation and context. These convictions
should more of less be used as guidelines instead of an ultimate book
of rules that one should adhere to in order to follow the 'Nepali' way
of life.

The way we are viewing things right now will soon be obsolete in the next decade and more or less rendered useless.

So nows the time to do something if you wanna, as for this 'samaj', you have a bigger problem if ur abroad, you gotta start thinking about what the 'global samaj' will say and that includes HUMAN BEINGS like yourself who might be your neighbor from a different country/cultural background.

Time to expand our scope to acknowledge and comprehend people/places/things that might not be related to Nepal but exist nevertheless!

Sincerely,

DD

I had a chance to meet Mr. Suresh Maratha personally, he is a very nice person in general. He is very driven and watch out for his up coming movies. He has a resume of whole lotta of good movies and give the audience far more than just a commercial line up. His art movie "Acceptance" is currently topping the chart and received accolades from so many critics, which proves that he has potential to take the movie industry by storm. Can't wait to see him succeed, all the best to him and his crew.

Movie Acceptance was worth to watch. It was little short perhaps...good time fly and did not noticed. Simple and true story. Casting director has done wonderful job by casting as a leading role resh marhata and carla. they acted like they really were married and had problems. R panta (father) has done excellent job.

Iam amazed that Resh Marhata has chosen this kind of Art movie and took it to next level. Please do this kinda of movie also, Iknow we heard you are high paid actor but doing this kind of movie make us happy..... Script was nicely done as well as directing part. Good Job guys.
