Got this in email from a friend in San Francisco. *************************************************************** The autocrat, Gyanendra Shah has imposed yet another emergency decree to suppress the freedom and fundamental human rights in Nepal. The Hundreds of political, student, and civic leaders have been either put in Jail or confined to a house arrest. This comes immediate after the government of Gyanendra completely ignoring the Maoist's unilateral ceasefire. Instead of taking advantage of the Maoist's ceasefire and reciprocating with their own for a genuine peace, the illegitimate regime has decided take a confrontational path, which everyone believes is going to bring more misery to Nepalis for a longer time to come. Gyanendra's one year direct rule and three years rule from behind the scene has clearly shown that this man has no intension of restoring peace and democracy and improving the lives of the Nepalis. Therefore, hundreds of thousands of people have been risking their lives in Nepal and telling him enough us enough. In recent months, more than one hundred thousand people have come to the street of Mahendra Nagar, Butwal, Janak Pur and Kathmandu, to oppose his direct rule. Had he not imposed the curfew and put hundreds of leaders in Jail, by some estimate, a half million people would have participated in the street protest on Jan 20th, against his unlawful cease of the government. Our brothers and sisters from a small village to the big cities and capital have been risking their lives to restore human dignity, which we Diasporas in the Northern California and elsewhere take for granted. Although, our options to help the cause for peace and democracy in Nepal is limited, we can show our solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Nepal with the available means; protesting against Gyanendra and supporting democracy and peace is one of the few options we can exercise here in America. Therefore, on February 1st 2006 , on the first anniversary (The black day) of the coup, we will be protesting in front of the U.N. plaza building in San Francisco (the birth city of the U.N.) . Please Come join us and let the freedom fighters in Nepal know that we are with them in their struggle for peace and democracy. Nepal Enterprise Forum Oakland, Ca For further information please call; Bhakta Thapa - (510) 734 - 1499 Biswo Poudel - (225) 937 - 5677 Roger Adhikari - (209) 640 - 1284 Date: Wednesday, Feb 1st, 2006 Time: 5:30 PM In front of the U.N. Plaza building Place: Corner of 7th and Market Street San Francisco, Ca Note: Please bring your friends and family and own placard with a good slogan reflecting support for peace and democracy in Nepal and opposing Gyanendra's tyranny. Finally, please do not criticize the US government in your placard because we are asking them to support the democratic cause and such criticism may only defeat our purpose.

People are urged to bring some USED TIRES (for tire burning event) to be held at 7th and Market St. People are also urged to bring bags of rocks and stones when the riot police confronts the protestors. People are also urged to bring empty bottles of beer (which will be filled with gasoline and will be set on fire before they are thrown at the riot police) Chakka Jam protest will be conducted on Market St. followed by the similar usual chaos seen in the streets of KTM. It will be a replay of the classic Nepali style protest.

why are you guys just being rediculed by someone's idea of protest as if it is going to do any good. perhaps you need to spend those valuable time finding solutions that would benefit the people of nepal and not just some few elite ones.

Parroting the westernize way of preaching, talking big talks of democratic values, human rights etc., kind of arguments are usually used by western countries to the third worlds that they are promoting democracy and protecting human rights like they did in Abu Garib prison. These are bunch of nonsense and not at all applicable to the present scenarios in Nepal, where people have been victimized by the corrupt political leaders in decades and later on left out and then the Maoist terrorist took the full advantage of the situation and started burning the whole Nepal upside down. This can not go for long. In order to stop such mayhem some body has to work and that work is not going to be very pleasant. May I ask these learned members why these corrupt politician so eagerly joined hands with the Maoist, even though these groups are declared as persona-non-grata by the West (US,UK). And for the record, these Maoists are still keep killing the innocent civilians including men, women, children, teachers, police men and blowing up the government buildings, schools, hospitals etc. driving down further Nepal’s poor economy. When enough is enough, His majestic in spite of the world condemnation took the right step to clean up the mess created by those people, now these corrupt and inept politicians are crying fowls…… What an irony? What a shame! Now some of our members want to demonstrate against his majestic action in SFO, May I ask what sort of relief that action can bring to Nepal and our people? We already know kind of puppetry role played by UN. Do our learned members think that UN will intervene in our internal sovereign affair and shut down his majesty action! Do they also think UN should install to those terrorist as a care taker of our sovereign nation! (?) Is not the time that we should throw all our differences and stand solid behind until he clears all the terrorists mess and pave the way for successful up coming municipal election. Susant Sharma
