One of my co-worker send me this link recently, and was surprised that this is still happening in Nepal. I stopped reading Nepal new since months, and like most people I know here... I'm so sick of reading about the political disaster in Nepal, and no surprise following News is even worse... Does anyone know of any country in the world that is worst beside Iraq, Afghanistan, and Nepal? and has no future, and bound to be like an Afghanistan in early 2000s. In this case Nepal would be ruled by Moaliban (aka Taliban).
Nepal dad sold girl for $25, paid in installments CNN POSTED: 12:20 a.m. EDT, September 29, 2006 or visit below- http://edition1.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/asiapcf/09/25/nepal.kamlari/index.html

.You're right Bhusan. Because the idiots who post the news think that they're the first ones to read the news. And the news they think is news, is actually already a month old.

bhusan- how exactly is it embarassing when topic such as existence of SLAVERY is being made aware to the world whether it gets posted 10 times or 1000? Are you embarassed coz you may be guilty as charged? mickthesick- the concern is NOT who wins the competition in news reading first, its SLAVERY, rather. Kasto Murakh haru.

I felt sad for my country and fellow people than embarrasing. Even the worse father would love to have his kids to his home and get proper care, educations and everything that comes with it. But how unfortunate when a father have to send a piece of his heart to someones else house to get some money in exchange. Do you guys think it is embarassing?????? I think it is unfortunate that we cannot do anything about it but to talk. Just imagine if one of us who are able to sponser one child so the child can get food, clothes and education nepal will be one of the best country in next 20-30 years.

Leave it to media to glamorize things. Whoever heard of payment in installments? I bet they charge some interest rate too right? In reality there are many girls and boys who work in the capital and get paid certain amount of money every month to send home. It is just plain media exaggeration to say it's slavery with payments made in installments. The news talks of 'contracts for a year' as if there are written contracts made by lawyers. If you actually find these children, they can go back on their own free will whenever they want. Leave it to the western media to feed on the pathoes of gullible readers who understand keywords such as 'slavery', 'installments', 'contracts', which all makes sense to them in their own way. These journalists should do a write up on live-in nannies in the US. Oh there are live in slaves in the US too who live as slaves, and they get paid on installations too. and they have monthly contracts as well.

why are we comparing USA and Nepal?? i don't think in USA they keep minor age nanny..age from 7 to 12...they get paid in installations too,,yeah but when they are nanny they won't work whole house work...worker rights .....they get weekend off...and they get at least minimum wage ... about nepal we are from poor country..there is no minimum age...most of the domestic helper are from age 7 to 12...they don't get weekend off...and there wage range from 250 to 600 rs..and most of these young children work all types of house work like adult work... i am for the domestic helper who is above 13 or 14...most these children parents are alcholic and lazy...that's shame on those parents who drinks with children hard earned money....

This sorta thing has been going on for centuries. In the old days young women used have their names tatooed on their wrists in the hopes of nevr forgeting where they came from(my granny had one). Also to see if anyone can recognize them while they are being transported. We all know that Indians Brothels have a big appitite for Nepali women. This is nothing new, just another headline that all.

Hey dude, Why do ya embarass ya's own mama who swept ya's sh*t all her life? Huh. I know it's an embarassing act of nepali to do those ill-ated acts but those are ignorant people and they didn't force them to work and actually she worked because she was bound to do so. Well if ya knew bullsh*t two or three words, it doesn't mean ya can judge the whole world. Well, ya's mama used to eat and sh*t in the same place but now she even neglects kitchen and eats in dinning room. So what i am saying is, Education is the main factor. It's slowly flourishing in our country. Well not like U.S but it's still on the progress. I hate to say ya nepali coz ya spit where ya eat. So dude, work it out. JANANI JANBHUMSEE SWARGADAPI GARIYASI

It is what Nepalese created. It is an effect of religion and culture. It indicates that the practice of religion and culture did not train Nepalese to love eachother unconditionally. It is not a question of who did what. In a collective form, behavior of one Nepali is the behavior of all Nepalese.

Here's another one: There are 200,000 plus nepaleses girls and women in India as a flesh slaves. Just a reminder - many of them are sold by their own family members. Now you think this is shameful just coz it's out on the world page, go deeper than that ppl. there are lot worst than that and we do nothing about it - now thats real shame. Viva revolutuion

When you her these things in CNN and other western media then it seems so weird but each and every house (almost all) in Nepal has one of these young helpers with them. This is one topic that I cant judge because if you look at it, our own family has a helper and we have been brought up thinking that its alright. I have seen instances where people say "Do you want to go back home?" and the helpers are scared to death about returning. Mainly because they dont get to eat, have to involve in physical labor AND they have to bear physical abuse often. So is it alright for people to hire these people? I have no idea!
