Remember that at this time gas prices are very high & will go further up. Just remember that best cars are Japenes, PERIOD....!
In the current Gas-situation you must buy only 4-valve or max 6-valve cars. These are most fuel economical & usually small-sized, therefore, less problem while parking.
And of course get feed-back of some nice Paki/Indian/Armenian car dealer before going to dealer or second hand guys.
And remember NO DRINKING & DRIVING.

Aslo check school and DORM notice board, Although its little late look up on school boards there might be cars on sale for those people who don't want to take their car if they are far away from home. They rather get a storage room and store all their shit and fly home. Also check out Craigslist, You might get lucky finding a cheap car but be also very carefull. Please see a car before paying. There is a lot of fraud on craigslist, they will have a nice car on the pic and ask for little amount of money and DON"T PAY SHIT BEFORE U SEE A CAR.

The cost of new Japaneese car in Nepal is little more than in US due to high import tax. On the other hand cars from India are cheaper and maintenance is easier.

For example a new corolla costs about USD 15,000 - 18,000.

Best is Maruti 800.

It's the cheapest (around 7 lakhs). It's small (can navigate easily through the gullies of Kathmandu) yet can seat comfortably 4 and uncomfortably 14. Gives good gas mileage. Maintenance cost is next to nothing.
