Dear Freinds, Can anybody tell me where I can find the consumer price index (CPI) or the wholesale price index of Nepal for the last 15 years or so? Data desperately needed. If u have it please let me know.

15 year times series on almost anything is a tall order in Nepal. But for up to a few years back, check out our Central Bank website at, http://www.nrb.org.np. You want to go to the "Press" section and find the Recent Macroeconomic Situation tables. These are monthly publications with a wide variety of monetary data. You'll find both the National Urban Consumer Price Index and the National Wholesale Price Index for up to two three years back. Monetary data in Nepal usually comes with about a 3 month lag. Hope that helps.

Oh, it turns out NRB's Quarterly Economic Bulletin is also available online. Go to the "Publications" section in the NRB website. They have QEBs for April and July 2003. Here, you'll find all kinds of price indices up to the early seventies.

I always liked Economic Intelligence Unit's reports on Nepal. I have bben following it over the last twenty tears. They are the best for consumer price index. Try a good library. Alternatives are the Website of World Bank, International Montetary Fund, Asian Development Bank. As a marketer I also heavily rely on International Marketing Statistics that comes out annually and is published by Euromonitor PLC in USA and London. They come in hard copies and you might have to pay online. Do they cover back fifteen years? Yes, they do. Try a good old USA University library. If it is available in Australia then in USA it could be very probable. Good luck hunting the info.
