Recently there was a proposal for my daughter with a friend's son who is living in US with green card. According to his parents he seems to be doing very well but few people told me to be careful so I wanted to ask in sajha since I was told most people are from the US. How easy is it to get a visa for my daughter to go to the US after marriage?

Gurumapa,

I have heard that people dont get to come to US easily once they are married to a greencard holder (keeping in mind the other is in their country), but it would be different for a citizen or an H1B holder.

Regards,

She'll need to wait for 4 years at the very least from the date he'd have filed a family petition for her before she could join him.

Things would be different if she were to apply to the US as a F-1 student but even then, the two won't be able to get married for at least a year from the day she'd land in the US.

This has got to be one of the most ridiculous laws pertaining to US immigration but that's the way it is.

Good luck.

That's true! With the GC holder, it takes a few years. US Citizens, H1, or even F-1 can bring dependents lol.. What kind of stupid law is this? Best of Luck

One of the person I know who has GC recently brought his family to US after 2.5 years of filing application.

Thank you everyone for your valuable comments. Marriage is not a good idea if they can't live together. I will proceed accordingly. Thank you again.
