The best thing to do is for all of us to try to avoid getting ourselves in a mess like that. But if I somehow found myself in a situation where I would face at least 20 years in jail (like Mr. Timilshina) then I would have tried to run for sure. I am totally with people who say that he shouldn't be drinking and driving and taking so many innocent lives is a great crime. However, I don't agree with the whole he should have stayed here and faced the consequences thing. If I remember it correctly, he was looking at 60 years in prison. It's better to commit suicide then spend 60 years with hard core criminals in the United States prison system. So, if I were in the same situation I too have at least tried to run. I hope that he feels sorry for what he did and will spend the rest of his life helping others/doing good. I pray that he never gets caught. He isn't a hardcore criminal; he shouldn't have to spend 60 years in prison with hardcore professional criminals like professional murders, rapists etc. He will have to spend the rest of his life knowing what he did, that's enough punishment. Can you imagine looking at the mirror everyday and thinking how things would have been different if he hadn't driven that day, playing the different scenarios in your head every second of your life imagining what life would have been if he was able to complete his Masters and work at a good company. His name is plastered all over nepali news sites so he will have a hard time living in Nepal too; he will have to spend the remainder of his life running and hiding. I feel sorry for the guy. I hate the crime but not the so called criminal in this case. It could literally have been anyone. More than a few of us on sajha have driven while drunk at some point or another.  It would be a completely different story if the person was a professional criminal, or a repeat offender or intentionally caused harm or faced only 5-10 years in prison.

Just one man's opinion.

Absolutly agree with your point sab-........sathi. Mr timilsina is not a hard core criminal but is in that situation by mistake. If he would in situation of getting soft punishmant like only few year jail and few hundred thousand as compensation, it that sitution he shuld surface and should surender and need to beg parden for his mistake, But condition of 60 years prision is too much for such non intentional mistake. In such sitution i think every one try to run.

I feel sorry for both the parties.I wish Sajan spend rest of his life doing something good to the mankind,if he is not caught. Why do we Nepali have habit of going deep into the events which have happened instead of finding the solution for it.

You want GREEN dollar, you want to be rich, send money back home and take care of family. You want more opportunity and successful life. You start business or get a good paying job.You want to drive your shiny car in a wide open highway, high speed. You live a materialistic American life. It's all fun.

BUT

When you get in trouble, you want a Nepali system to bail you out?

Yes raju161 if someone like Mr. Timilshina killed my three sisters or my parents or my brothers or my significant other or myself  I would still want him to spend the rest of his life doing some good rather than rotting in the prison for 60 years. It would be a completely different story if the person was a professional criminal, or a repeat offender or intentionally caused harm to my loved ones or faced only 5-10 years in prison. But I just don't see what good will come out of sending someone like Mr. Timilshina to prison for 60 years. People will argue that this will serve as a deterrent to anyone who thinks about driving while drunk. But I don't support sending someone to prison for 60 years just so that we can use him as an example. Once again, just one man's humble opinion.

Read what Mr. Rewire has got to say.

You come here thinking this is a fricking whore house? That americans are not human beings and you can fk them anyway you want and then run out of this place?

Situational rhetoric: Say an Indian dude runs over an old lady in Kathmandu, and runs off to Goa never to be found again. Infact, say he ran over the old lady and her 12 year old kid. Wouldn't you agree that the BEST thing to do for that indian dude is to run away like the pussy that he is? Imagine the reaction of the Ason tol, ready to tear him limb to limb, when they find out that because of incompetence of the Nepalese police that Indian has escaped never to be found.

Justice is served for a reason. And that reason is NOT so that the one who erred can feel comfortable about doing whats BEST for him. Its so that the victimized receives some solace about losing something so precious.

Its bad that destiny put him through that test. Not everyone finds riches and THE good life, sad as it may be its true. But his actions certainly have consequences that will reflect upon the community as a whole.

And we give a damn about what others think/say about us BECAUSE we are living in their HOUSE!

Why some ashole are worry about fame, it is a sad story and happen by a DUI Nepali. Why you are worry about fame, what fame you talking about, How many people will know you as Nepali? If you walk with Mexicans or Latinos , you are no different than them and if you are with Indians, paki and middle eastern people you are one of them. No body will point out you as a Gorkhali or Nepali. Now only those family will remember what happen and by whom it happen, rest have no time to think about it. They have their own craps to take care about. Life moves on. We are the one stocked here.

I do not understand why you crying for loosing fame.
