Sabin Rai In Custody [Update : 26 Mar 2007] (Comments: 64) Sabin Rai, one of the most popular Nepali singers had until now everything going good for him but we are rather sad to inform you that he was taken into custody from Dubai, UAE (United Arab Emirates) airport by the police officials on March 19th just before boarding his flight back to Nepal. Sabin had left for Dubai on March 13th to perform at the ‘Ramailo Sanjh Nepali Musical Concert’ along with Rajesh Hamal, Adrian Pradhan, Rejina Upreti, Usha Poudel, Nandita KC, Prakash Ojha, Bimal Raj Chhetri, Devi Ghati Magar and Joheb Manandhar. Besides Sabin and Joheb, the other artists returned back to Kathmandu on March 19th; the very day Sabin was arrested at the airport. Though people are still speculating without much concrete confirmation of the facts and the latest developments, we have been informed that Sabin used to work at Pizza Hut, Dubai some years back. After 15 months of his stay there, he decided to come back to Nepal for a vacation. We have been told by a very reliable source in Dubai that Sabin did not comply with some of the rules and regulations set by the company, Pizza Hut for all its employees, the major one concerning the visa. Quote “Apparently, Sabin did not follow this rule ‘for whatsoever reason’. Due to the ‘negligence’ on his part, the company had filed a case against him resulting in his name being blacklisted in Dubai. Hence, when he was here to perform, the police nabbed him and took him under their custody”. Unquote. According to another source in Dubai itself, “He was arrested when he was at the airport along with the other artists. Sabin used to work in Dubai and while he had gone to Nepal to visit his family, he had not followed the contractual agreement with the company he had been employed. Because of this, the company had registered a case against him, which resulted in him being in the UAE blacklist. Initially, when the police detained him, we thought that he would be released after a few rounds of inquires. But we came to know that he has been put behind bars. We have been also informed that once the company where Sabin had worked for settles the matter and the case, only then he shall be allowed to leave the country. Meanwhile, the organizers of ‘Ramailo Sanjh Nepali Musical Concert’ in coordination with the Nepal Embassy, Dubai is working to solve this matter.” Incidents like these are indeed an insult to Nepal and all Nepalis. If he was in the UAE blacklist, why in the first place was he granted a visa to travel and perform there? Why was he not detained when he first set foot at the Dubai Airport itself? Sabin was in Dubai to perform and is it fair that he be arrested after the event? How come he was not detained before the event itself? These are just some of the questions that we want answers to. It has already been seven days that he has been arrested and still his state is not known. Isn’t a high time that we find out what exactly is happening? Artists are supposed to be valuable treasures of our nation and it definitely hurts us deep when unpleasant incidents like these occur. Isn’t it also the duty and responsibility of Nepal Government to do something about this issue? Source: fur sad.com

got what he deserved...contract=fulfillment of obligation. If you promise you have to deliver if not they will take your ass to the can. what an idiot to go back despite the fact knowing he was black listed... I like his Bryan Adams like voice though. BTW, I don't think these artists are "jewels" of Nepal. They are no differrent than anyone of us who respect the rule of law and our contractual obligations. I am sure he will manage to get this taken care of.
