I heard from one of the travel agent that after the recent incident in england, all people need to get the transit visa. When i checked the british embassy website they have the same old information if we have US green Card issued before 1998 we need to get the transit visa for GC holder issued after 1998 we don't need transit visa. Does any body have any information about it or has any one travelled recently through England ?

yes ak169 u need visa. I guess u have to go through custom again in london so u might need full visa. It doesnt matter wen u got green card. If u have american citizenship or british cizitenship u r fine but other all ppl need visa, whether transit or full i don know but u need to talk to airlines first to b confirm or jus call british embassy n ask wat question u got. they might give u more clear n correct information. thanx

Thanks a lot. In the embassy website they say if the GC is after 1998 we don't need transit visa. Due to recent terror plot they might want us to go through the custom again in that case as you said we need visa. Ya i need to contact the embassy and see what they tell, after that will update this thread. If anybody has any additional information please share it.

let me tell i m sure abt visa bro coz i had to return back from airport recently so i m tellin u that we need visa from england to travel . now the alert might b eased from last time but still b confirm before travelling. i was informed by the airlines services that we need complete visa not just a transit visa because we have to go through customs again. Now the condition might have changed but still taking some information might be helpful for travelling long distance. i m telling u this coz i faced the same problem before...just few days back. so take some gud steps..u have two choices. one u can change ur flying route second u can get full visa. its the same. jus check with embassy n if u need visa ..den check with ur travel agency den compare the price..if the price is almost same..i mean once u cancel ur air ticket they might charge u some money..but wen u apply for visa it costs money n second u have to go to embassy. so the expenditure might be almost same so why take long step..jus call ur agency n change route( n travel from where u don need visa). thank u

hey aka169, below is what I found from their website. My bro came 2 mths ago from Nepal via UK in F1 visa, he said no one asked him a thing. I don't know why a US Permanent Resident would need a visa to fly via UK, but please do let us know after you call them. Thank you.

Thanks a lot guys. I have checked websites of both the uk embassy and airlines, but no where it mentions about the change in visa policy.

Regarding going through custom what i found in the airline website is - if your handbag luggage doesn't meet the new requirement then we have to go through the custom, this is the latest update in virgin atlantic website which i assume is correct.

feb14th1981 - i had seen that website u mentioned, which i assume is not changed otherwise they should have updated the information there. So i think we don't need visa, but why to take risk, that's why i'm trying to get possible informtion.

I will definitely update once i get additional information. Calling the British embassy is pain they charge more than $2/minute. Finally i will have to call them.

Update - I called the virgin atlantic at the dulles airport washington DC (800-862-8621), they are not aware of any new change in the visa policy as of today. So i think the visa rule is still the same. But they recommend to call the British embassy.

Our nepali travel agent they don't take the responsibility and take initiative to get information. I think it's easier for them to get information. They don't know any thing more than selling the ticket and think it's one time business. This is the bad experience of buying ticket from nepali travel agent. I know they can not guarantee about visa but still i think thay can get current and correct information.

One of my friend travelled through England just few days back and reached Nepal without any visa issue. So there is no change in the visa rule after the recent terror plot foil in England.

My nepali travel agent was stupid and gave wrong information.
