 Hello to all,
Dear Sajha folks, i have just completed my bachelors with molecular biology as a major and currently looking for job either in bio tech companies, pharmaceuticals, hospitals, labs or some research center. I would like to know if somebody is currently working in the above mentioned field, where a molecular biolgist can be hired.. or knows someone who is working on that field.. moreover, i have a question for all professional job holders, who were directly hired... how u guys did find the job? is it ,somebody hooked u to their place.. ? what is the correct method to apply for a job? right now i m applying thru monster, careerbuilder, dice  etc. is that a appropriate way to apply? coz i did not get any response from those places where i had applied or is it coz i didnot have any experiences? suggest me how do i apply for a job? do i wait for their response or i should keep in touch with HR department to know the status of my application? plz be free, frank and modest to reply my thread. it might also help other folks like me who are under same situation..

regards
DNA

The best time to do a job hunt is when you are in school. You should do internships which will help you put some experience in your resume. Many interns also end up joining the company that they intern to.

Now that you've completed your studies already, I say keep trying. Reach out to your professors who you think have industry contacts, your friends through your network. Keep applying on monster and careerbuilder. Also, make a list of all bio-tech firms and visit their career page; then apply directly. See if you can get contact for HR of that company and try to establish communication by asking him/her questions about your career there.

Having said this, it still isn't easy to get jobs, specially if you don't have an experience. Keep trying; you never know what will click. Meanwhile, have some kind of plan what you will do if you don't get any offer in next 3 months...such as other jobs, study further, go back home etc. Don't lose hope and hang in there buddy.

Look around for the websites of the companies that do work in your field or interest and try to find contact info for HR (who are very often dumb esp in cases of big companies) or preferably the manager of the department that you would like to be in and shoot out your tailor made resume even if they have no openings announced on their website or anywhere else. At the worst you will get a "no" or "sorry", that you have nothing to lose.

References and  contacts very often do the magic if you could find any.

Hello DNA

I am exactly in your situation. I tried all the job sites and I didn't hear anything from the companies - no emails, nothing. So for few days it made me wonder if the job postings are for real until I got few replies from some companies. I am kinda exhausted now so planning to go for grad school and changing my major to computer science from biology. And some people mentioned here in Sajha that BS in biology sucks - which may be true ! Good luck man and holler let me know as you move on !
