I have seen these Nepali ANA program and what I notices is that most of the girls are wearning all westernized clothes and some look like half naked. There are lot of family people with kids and senior citizen who come to take part in this program. Don't you need to respect them ??? We need to respect our culture and values and dress appropriately in those kinda functions. They can wear whatever they want in parties or clubs .

There are lots of girls and women wearing saris and kurtas who look more beautiful than these girls wearing shorts, skirts tops whatever

These girls might think they look superior by wearning these kinds of dresses but some girls look really ugly.

Commets please....

.ha ha ha! I was expecting this kinda thread. This is the season for these threads. If we look at the trend of last few years' thread we will find some threads of similar topic created immediately after July 4th.

ekloyatri15, somebody had to start this thread and this time it is you. After all we need to preserve our culture, right? You did your job and we read it. Let's get over it and start minding our own business. What say?

Peace

Loote "shutting down a machine" like a civilized citizen has never been a part of our culture. Ekloyatri15 needs to take his computer to street and dem burn it right away if he is any serious about preserving Nepali culture.

Here is your answer Lotekukur.. jasto naaam tyatai kaam

1) how about eating just plain dal bhat...or gundruk for that matter? let's be nepali - plain and simple. don't eat burgers or pasta or pizza or shrimp or sushi or any foreign cuisines/foods. we need to preserve our culture.

Don't you eat dal bhat. Don't act like you feel so ahame of your own food man. How westernize u try to become these white people will count you as an alien and don't make fun of your own country

2) why go to schools in the US or UK or AUS or NZ or IND when we have TU/KU/PU and so on back in our own country?we need to preserve our culture.
there are lots of schools colleges in Nepal like US Uk aus .. there is no doubt about it

let's talk in nepali with americans too. why can't they learn to speak in nepali when we can learn to write/read/speak in english( or hinglish for some ). we need to preserve our culture.
here we are talking about cultureal event .. tht language or american people ..

Even in Chrisitan church you u dress in a proper way up like this nepali girls then they will have a problem . Keep in mind

We need to respcet every culutre and those people who tries to make fun of our own culture  then they do not need to be called Nepali and kicked out of the country

i don't think not all the nepali girls dress up like that.  my american friends don't even dress up like that.  i think only those girls that kinda not stable, low self esteem, etc dress up like that.  went to a recent gathering of nepalis, there were quite a few unmarried girls, everyone dressed up appropriately.  maybe because they are all professionals from well to do family?

Wow! So many postings and so many visits within such a short period of time. This is really amazing.

It is our freedom and right to do whatever we like as long as it does not interfare with others rights, however, it is also common sense and moral values to think if it is appropriate to wear such clothes at social gatherings like the ANA (unless during party times), which is more like a family gathering to many. More than preserving one's culture, it is simply a professional thinking, I would say, to dress appropriately at such gatherings. If people are trying to pretend like westerners or Americans by wearing such clothes, many of us know that even they respect the significance of gathering and dress accordingly....just my opinion, but the most important thing is, We are free to do whatever we please, as long as, it does not interfare with others rights.

I don't understand how does a woman or a girl wearing a short dress at a gathering be a problem?

Unless....

- you are a guy and don't want to be caught by your wife staring at the scantily-clad vixens

or

- you are a woman who does not want your husband ogling at those other women ...

Anyways, seriously, I don't know what to say. It's not like ANA is a church or a temple or something. It's not even a business meeting. Most of the people I know who go to ANA go there to have fun and socialize. So unless they show up topless, they should be allowed to wear what they like. If they dress improperly they more often than not find themselves being labeled what they don't like to be labeled as.

It still bothers me how we Nepalis have to talk shit about others, always !! Ekloyatri, timi ajhai eklai chhau bau ? Baru ti chhoto chhoto luga laune sanga maya ka dui chaar bol boleko bhaye sajha ko timro naam ni change garnu hunthyo ki.

Jeez bro, take a chill pill man. Let them do whatever. And, dont bring stuff like what if your sister mother bullshit, thats a cheap ass logic bro. Besides, you talking about temple and church up your ass bro, ANA is no temple or church. Its a party place, and by your own "dress like that in clubs" logic, clubbing = partying, partying = ANA, thus the girls should be allowed to wear them.

Loote bro, totally agree with your first comment !!!

First say what is "half-naked", then why it was not appropriate. It would be an unjustified description of the "behavior" of Nepali girls when generalized with that kind of comments.

EkloYatri15,

This is such a STOOOPID question. WHY THE FUG CAN'T NOSY ASSHOLES LIKE YOU MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS ? WHAT I WANT TO WEAR IS MY BUSINESS NOT YOUR OR ANYONE ELSE !!! YOU DON'T SEE ME COME AROUND SAYING YOU DRESS LIKE A KHATTEY DO YOU ? SO SHUT THE FUG UP !!! PRESERVING YOUR CULTURE SHOULD BE IN YOUR HEART NOT YOUR APPEARANCE.

YOU DON'T SEE ME BITCH ABOUT YOUR BANANA HAMMOCK DO YOU ? HA HA HA

I agree people shud have freedom to choose what to wear. You can wear whatever you want. If you feel comfortable you can wear minis in temple or any other social functions its up to you. In my opinion every individual is free to do whatever they want unless they harm other. This is where the social values and upbringing plays a part. Family values have great impact on how you treat or respect other even by what you wear in social functions.

Most of the people living in USA are single or just couples and they don't wanna care what other people might say about them. In fact, they want to show off more than what they have. (ex... fat ass aunties wearing tight pant ) That is where they slip. I don't know but most of the Nepali girl looks ugly in such dress, american looks so good. May be Nepali girl grab whatever in sale, instead of some disigner dresses.

I personally think that girls can look sexy even if they wear KURTAS if the dress suits thier personality, fits in thier body and wear it nicely. About preserving Nepali culture, Nepal shud be in your heart not in your dress.

preserving culture should  be in our heart not in appearance..like most people i too agree that you should mind your own business instead of looking for other's fault.. its none of our business to talk shit about girls who is wearing western clothes. beside that dude atleast they showed up to support ANA. dude dont be one of those conservative nepali . you are in US so broaden your mind ... "when you are in greece act like a greek"

I can never understand the double standard that we all live by. You guys are so narrow minded, its amazing. Let the girls wear what they want. It has nothing to do with culture. I dont see anyone talk about "preserving our culture" when everyone is getting trashed from booze. Being stupid drunk, guys on the bench outside passed out and lying on his own puke goes unnoticed, while girls wearing summer clothes gets a 37 post thread.

Ekloyatri!
you must be missing all those Buy One, Get One Free deals while shopping, aren't you?

Getting back to the 'pwaaint', first of, think like you are in America. Secondly, even if those ladies were your sisters, you don't have any authority to monitor their clothing. Thirdly, if I see skimpy-clad women and they are not related to me, that's a free feast for my eyes. If you know enough women, you will learn how much women value their fancy clothes, jewelry, and flower gifts to name a few.

Since you claimed of "half-naked clothes" let us see you post some of such pictures in order for you to justify your own claim. Lastly, if any lady/girl showed up at the parties with "Got Breasts?" or "Got Beaver?" kind of outfit then they will probably never make it beyond the security personnels.

Let's hear from some more actual women who would like to defend their positions.

Peace
