Hi Bhumika,

Don't be disappointed because your day will come. I am not trying to argue in favor of America here but let me tell you something I truly believe America is the only country in the entire world where anybody can be successful by doing anything and doing it honestly.
There is nothing wrong in working at the Italian restaurant as a server, any job that puts the roof over your head and food in your plate, and you need to respect that job. Sweetheart it's your perception that's causing all these sorrow.

I came to America when I was 17 years old. Did not know a soul in US. I made some mistakes and on the other hand made some wise decision. I too had a humble beginning like most immigrants and today I am very happy with what I have. I really don't think I could have achieved what I have achieved today if I was living in Nepal or anywhere else without taking bribes or inheritance.

I truly believe root cause of your disappointment is that you are homesick. I suggest you go out make friends, explore the world enjoy your life. Sweetheart, let me tell you something..Life is not a destiny it’s a journey. You only have one lifetime..Live it the way you want. Make some attitude adjustments and let me know if you still feel betrayed.

Take care..or else no one will take care of you.

Can anyone tell me how can one have patience and wait for better days to come when thier H1 or opt is expiring and renewing is not possible. How can one have patience when they have to pay $4000 to $8000 in 4 months and they get paid 7 bucks an hour, while going to school? Can anyone tell me how they supposed to make that 7 bucks an hour when most jobs on campus are already taken, when they're only allowed to work 20 hours a week? Can anyone tell me how they can have patience when unable to pay dues on time or lowering thier credits numbers in any semester can make them illegal?
You guys talk about patience and shit. Maybe you guys came here a long time ago when the grass was green? maybe your parents did the struggle and you came to lick the pie. maybe you won the DV lottery. These are all different stories. We're talking about F1 students who come here for undergrad.
I'm sure where Bhawana worked there were very few Indians struggling like her. I'm sure there were very few indians in undergraduate program in her University. I am sure there were lots of Indians in her college doing thier masters and enjoying the stub from their respective departments. They have easy life and faster H1 , and even if nothing works out for them they have nothing to lose because very less investment than compare to a Nepali who worked in a restaurant or a gastation to go through college.
Why take the painful road.why not come for masters? why not come only when you have enough funding? Why not give these kids good advice than to tell them to have patience. have patience and what get illegal.. make situation much worse?
god dyamnnn

dyamn, i agree with you...ya i am talking about F1..i dont' know about others...i am not working hard for me but for my bf(f1). he used to work a lot...but now i am working for him..coz' the most he can get is $8...and i don't want him to work in indian or in gas-station......coz' we all know it's very risky to work in gas-station...you never know when ..i love him a lot...more than myself...and his fee is just too high...you guys won't believe..that's why we didn't celebrate his birthday but i gave him a check to pay his college fee....that's the only way i can help...i mean for my bf there is me...but for other guys...i feel so sorry..but ya dont' give up ....that's why i always tell my frens and bros and sis..to complete undergrad and come for masters....like indians...

Good things in life take time!

we've all been through what you described one way or the other. (of course not saying i have any such life now) but as the entropy goes, it could have been far more worse :)

as long as you enjoy pain, hard work and sorrows, you should be fine... without experiencing these you can never get to anything anywhere...

Fascinating topic. In my own experience, home is where the heart is and unless you put your heart into America (or any place for that matter) you will never really really like it. I have known people who have lived here for 20 years but never liked it because in their minds they were always living in Nepal. I miss my friends and family back home but I've learnt that I must put aside their memories at times to make the most of my moments here.

Usagal - I am happy for you and your family. Hope everything works out well.

:)

Now I no longer live in the US or Nepal. This place feels so much like home eventhough it's not Nepal or the US.

@ this point all i can mention is ...

working for $7/hr and paying $4000/semester no biggie.. can be done. all u have 2 do is sacrifice all ur social life.. sacrifice all the bar hopping, alcohol consumption and quit smoking.

I have done the same when i was getting paid only $5/hr. that was 10 yrs ago. (O: held 2 jobs in summer. 1 was internship in a fortune 500 company[ they paid only $10/hr and after tax :( i used to get $328/week].... then took a graveyard shift in a gas station plus weekends. [got paid $250/week for 50hrs] . yes, i did not have any "so-called life" but i pulled it through.

IF I CAN DO IT EVERYBODY CAN DO IT. All one need is patience and perseverence.

and if one is scared of death then rather stay inside ur house. oh i forgot.. dyamn the building may collapse too...
who knows what is there is future. but just because its dangerous does not mean giving up ur way of survival.
