Just got this news forwarded to me and am sad for this brilliant kid who was among the smartest Himalayan kids I'd known here. What a waste of potential...Can only hope that he comes out stronger after this ordeal:

Yeah, what he did was the stupidest thing he ever could have but the kid just turned 21 and it saddens me that someone with so much left to achieve being brought down thi way.  BTW, If you're gonna cuss at him, pls refrain as this thread is here to provide the kid the support we can give him from sajha (I'll ask him to check it).  FYI, I'm gonna go ballistic deleting posts which do not adhere to my beliefs (Fug free speech if its aimed at bringing the already down, lower).

$75,000 bail for man accused of fatal DWI hit-run

NEW YORK (AP) _ A judge set bail Monday at $75,000, more than the prosecutor requested, for a college student accused of a drunken hit-and-run incident that killed a young woman who had moved to New York from Scotland.

Tenzing Bhutia, 21, who was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court, is accused of mowing down Julia M. Thomson, 24, as she crossed a street near her Lower East Side apartment early Sunday.

A felony court complaint charges Bhutia with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident involving a death, and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Bhutia's blood alcohol level was 0.087 percent, a fraction over the 0.08 percent upper limit, according to the complaint.

The complaint said Bhutia told police that he knew that he hit something and did not stop.

A witness said that a black Mercedes side mirror was next to Thomson, an Edinburgh native, as she lay on the street bleeding.

About 3{ hours later, police found a damaged black Mercedes in Forest Hills, Queens. The auto, registered to Bhutia's father, was missing a passenger side mirror, had a smashed passenger side windshield and a dented front fender, the complaint said.

The defendant's father, Temdy Bhutia, told police his son had driven the car early Sunday, the complaint said.

Judge Tanya Kennedy set Bhutia's bail at $75,000 _ $25,000 more than Assistant District Attorney Dafna Yoran had asked for, and ordered Bhutia to surrender his passport.

Palermo said he expected his client, who entered no plea during the arraignment, to post bail.

Bhutia is a senior at Baruch College, where he is majoring in finance, and is an information technology employee at a New York City company, according to his lawyer, Edward Palermo.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 5.

wow... sad indeed.
hope that he would get over this.

======================================================
judge thinks he is a flight risk.

0.007 over limit after 3 hrs hmm... that's equivalent to 5 drinks. )O:

so he will be facing 4 counts on the 2nd degree [ class D felony], 4 counts on leaving the scene involving death and 2 counts on DWI

So, that was the story.

I came across that black Mercedes being investigated by NYPD detectives in Forest Hills on Sunday morning.

Sad, indeed.

He might look brilliant be brilliant in the "paper", , but I say hes a fu*** retard.
Either don't drink and drive, or if you drive make sure you don't get into trouble.
Whats so complicated in that?

eyefusion, wtf azzhole?? How many kids do you know who when in high school ran their own business with a 6 figure revenue?? How many college freshmen you know of who've worked at a major Wall Street firm (NOT AS AN INTERN) even before they've graduated from college?? How many kids did you know who drove around in a 2007 Mercedes they bought with their own hard-earned money before they even turned 20??  NONE??  BTW, The kid you called a retard embodied all of the above, fool (and I guess that in your mind is AVERAGE, huh??)!! Why am I proud to call him brilliant (not the hit-run part though)? Coz of his achievements listed above...More importantly he was a friend and he was our own lil Nepali speaking Himalayan brother.

Not that I agree with what he did, but azzwipe eyefusion calling him a f** retard is bull. Hey, this is one major mistake this kid made in his life and he ought to be punished hard for it (it depends on the jury how long) but my main point for this article is that this is a classic case of a "waste of potential". Nothing more. Why even focus your feces-filled convoluted mind on the brilliant part?? What an azz!!

Damn bro,
If he's got that talent, it shouldn't be a big deal for him to get it off his back. The bail amount is nothing for a 6 figure making kid.
Samsara,
Do I have to google it to find the validaity of this kid making 6 figures, own business, wall street? like you said on one of the thread.

"Go out and meet peepe outside too "
Hold on there, just beacuse you're in NY doesn't necessarily mean you know everything and more social lite than the rest of the nation. Been there and done that, bro. I ain't got time and energy to go to bar to socialize, if you can figure out my age.
Well I'm glad to hear the kid is out on bail. I hope he' got a sharp lawyer. That will do it.

samsara ,

I don't know who you are, and more importantly I don't care who you are but the name calling was completely uncalled for.
If you want to get your words across me, come proper.

I am not even gonna attempt to argue with you logically here because by your own inference, driving Mercedes Benz, and working in major Wall street qualifies as brilliance. I highly doubt this kid made 6 fig revenues when in high school, but just like I don't care about you, I don't care about this also. Those things are beside the point.

Actually coming to think of it, its you who actually made me think that this kid was not brilliant because of the way you presented the post.
Apparently, you know the guy, and you used the word "brilliant" seeking to invoke empathy amongst us for the guy.
On top of that, you want me to feel sad for the guy who killed an innocent pedestrian?
Fu**ing retard!!
P.S-I'm not calling him that now anymore. I'm calling you.

What a pointless discussion.. look what i found..

"Bhutia's lawyer, Edward Palermo, told the judge his client was born in India, came to this country when he was 7 years old, and is now a U.S. citizen. Bhutia's sister, Kessang Bhutia, 24, said their family is of Tibetan extraction."

This was posted on international herald tribune website..

eyefusion, the goddamn sublimest ignoramus here...hahaha This fugger calls someone a f** retard and when I step up and call him what HE really is instead (a damn azzwipe), he suddenly gets defensive. hahahah WTF nincompoop?? Did I say I'm here to arouse sympathy from dog-breaths like you??? All I stated was that it was a waste of potential and this kid messed up big time. Nothing more.

Since you say what this kid (that too a Himalyan kid against all odds) achieved even before he graduated is peanuts. Give me one example of ANY kid today: white, black, cuban, asian who is in a major Wall Street company and still a freshman (AND NO, IT AIN'T NO INTERN, FOOL!!). NONE?? YOU CAN'T FIND ONE EXAMPLE, DIMWIT?? How do I know that its impossible to get in? Coz I work for one stoopido (and the ones who know me on sajha know that shieet) and lemme tell you, just to be considered for an interview even a top tier Bachelors is not enough. You gotta have the right connex to make your resume come through the faxsimile.  hahhaaha  Listen, if you think it ain't all that, where da fug are you in life??  Think you're some high school phenom who's on of the BOD at Goldman??  fug you wannabe!  Last I saw your post, you were hawking ways to teach fools here how to become dot com millionaires.  wtf??  Wake up, dung-for-brains, we're in 2007 (ain't no room for the decade old stuff you had in there, gerbil).

And use "sympathy" instead of "empathy" in your 3rd last line, smartazz!! Wtf are you trying to say there, FOB?? Now go cry and tell your mom how Samsara ripped you apart to shreds like he does to fools like you daily and nightly. hahahah

Finally, I'm not here to arouse sympathy from anyone and what Bhutia did was stupid but atleast refrain from name-calling when you can clearly see that the kid's just a college going fool who just turned 21 (If you've only name-calling to do to him, then pls refrain as I would have to delete your posts...since I'm the moderator of this thread...Fug free speech intended to bring others who are already down, lower!!). Let the court of law decide the verdict before we start persecuting the kid here.

Contrasting empathy to other phenomena

One must be careful not to confuse empathy with either sympathy, pity, emotional contagion, or telepathy. Sympathy is the feeling of compassion for another, the wish to see them better off or happier, often described as "feeling sorry" for someone. Pity is feeling that another is in trouble and in need of help as they cannot fix their problems themselves. Emotional contagion is when a person (especially an infant or a member of a mob) imitatively 'catches' the emotions that others are showing without necessarily recognising this is happening. Telepathy is a controversial paranormal phenomenon, whereby emotions or other mental states can be read directly, without needing to infer, or perceive expressive clues about the other person.

Sympathy is, "I'm sorry for your sadness, I wish to help."
Pity is, "Things are bad for you, you seem as though you need help."
Emotional Contagion is, "I feel sad."
Empathy is, "I feel your sadness."
Apathy is, "I don't care how you feel. "
Telepathy is, "I read your sadness without you expressing it to me in any normal way."

"empathy" by wikipedia can be accessed by clicking here

[ may not be what he is implying or trying to convey but empathy does fit the sentence and would/could convey his argument regardless. ]

my 2 cents .. use of "empathy" is justified.

First of all, RIP the soul of the girl who died.

Did the kid deserve it? Yes! why? In simple words, he "ran" after hitting someone, which is the definition of utter negligence of someone's life.

Does Bhutia need support, Yes not because he is a "Brilliant Himalayan Kid" like the owner of the post mentioned.... but because, we make mistakes and one of those mistakes could turn our lives around. A little sympathy or empathy (if you will) helps.

To the owner of the post: I do not know who you are. I am sure you have established yourself so much so that you call people with beliefs different that yours, "FOBs", maybe you are a head honcho at one of the financial firms in the Wall Street, or a Janitor at the MTA... nobody in sajha gives a flying F16 Fudge about your status, and honestly, I don't think you were born in the US either so stop judging people calling them names. please don't post threads on sajha if you cannot take criticism. and if you want to go at somebody please do not distort cuss words, since you are soo american maybe you have other ways (politically correct, "Granny Cusses") to cuss without the system flaggin you down ;) . Oh by the way if I was a big guy at the wall street, I would not have time to reply to your comments, obviously I have no life . Tell us something, You have constantly been updating the post and getting back at other people... YOU must have a "life"... and most importantly you must be a big shot at one of the Fortune 500 companies... I'll let the readers decide.

Peace

Sansara:
I am proud of this brilliant kid and have no sympathy for the victim and her family. Hope this makes you happy.

What makes me sad is your lack of respect for the victim and the family.

.Samsara's Point
1. The kid owns business
2. The kid drives his own Merc. (I don;t know why it was registered under his father's name)
3. WallStreet

Perfect...Brilliant ....

My point.
1. He was driving under influence .... no respect for law
2. He killed someone .... Murderer
3. He ran after killing .....
4. He shattered dreams of a whole family .... bastard

Perfect ... yestalai bhanchan "padheka murkha".

Jo afno gyan ra sampati ko sadupayog garadi durupayog garcha tyo "Gyane" bhanda kehi kam chaina ... yo "Baburam" bhanda kam gaye gujreko chaina. I hope the procecutor will ask for death penaly (if state law has this provision). Yesta manche prithivi ka bhar matra hun. Afno lagi ta dherai gare holan, padhe holan, sampati kamaye holan ..... but such bastards are only sucking up the society.
