Regarding nepotism in Kathmandu University, there has been number of letters published from the faculties as well as KUPA in e-kantipur (24-27 May). Similarly, there are other write-ups in Nepali languages dailies and weeklies. We, ex graduates of KU, have compiled all these and put them in the following blog;

www.changeinku.blogspot.com

All the graduates and ex-faculteis are welcome to give their opinion. Let us destroy nepotism in KU.

Dear PaankopatJi:

It appears that your request was heeded by KU bloggers especially this one."

I think they still have your response posted but not my original queries. In fact, they have cut and pasted your responses --two of them, but not a sinlge view of mine ot anyone else's. They need to provide balanced view by posting both views. They have not done it.

Dear Saritajee,

Thanks for latest posting. I am sorry that I could not answer you in time. However, regarding your query, I strongly support that your views must be their in KU blogger’s blog. Please send your views to them they will definitely publish it like your comment which I just noticed over there.

It seems that you are an ardent supporter of Kathmandu University. That is very good. It means that our championing this cause of purification of Kathmandu University will not be wasted. In Kathmandu University everything is so good. All the students are really good and most of the faculty members are also very good. Students in Kathmandu University are the best ones as they never indulge in politics. Similarly, teachers of Kathmandu University is also the best teachers because they never do politics. But, there are some people who always do poliitcs in KU with Nepotism as guiding principle. Perhaps you might be listening to their views too much. Whatever it may be, it is your choice and I respect your ideas.

Today, when I was browsing through your commnets, I am surprised to read a notice requesting for good comments. I hope that people like you never put bad comments. Who are these people sending threatening cooments and vulgur coments to the blog? For your conveince I putting bloggers notiuce bewlo.

paankopatJi:

Thanks for the info. The posting by the anonymous blogger requests everyone to use civil language, and be constructive in their criticism of the blogger's opinion. Yet its constant use of words like vigilante, thugs, mandale to describe the management of KU seem hardly civil. I don't know Suresh Sharma, but I find this to be inconsistent.

It seems you too are a big fan of KU yoursefl, and so don't you think it is important that the KU be not under any political unions? It has ruined Tu and a lot of other public institutions.

I don't know anything about Suresh Raj Sharma but reading all these articles on SAJHA about his (SURESH RAJ's) NATA GOTA , KU is Worst than TU.

HI:

We should not decide and destroy a fine institution like KU through anonymous blogging and name calling. TU's demise can directly linked to its over political climate. KU is heading towards that direction... with or without Suresh Sharma. Even if Suresh Sharma leaves KU, the seed of dirty party politics will have been planted by these anonymous bloggers.

Every time there is some firing of the teachers (competent or incompetent for whatever reason ) the culture of street politics's will surface and resurface in the names of "sons and daughters of motherland Nepal").

How sad!

this is because Suresh Ji wants to bring his own relatives in that position and there is a protest from the victim who got fired and you call it a political issue, It just tells me you are related to Suresh Ji as well.

MikeJi:

There is no need to be personal and start accusing of each other of being this or that. I am not related to Suresh Sharma, nor do I believe that you are that incompetent disgruntled employee of KU who is trying to get back at KU by blogging rumors. I am also sure that you are not a hardcore political person who seems interested in infesting KU with politics in the name of Suresh Sharma. Let's stay away from it. I have read a lot of postings and believe that KU needs reform, and perhaps you should provide some tangible ideas. Name calling of all sorts alone will not get KU anywhere.

I do not think intruding political activism at KU will solve the problem, and let's agree to disagree without calling each other by any names. This is my humble request.

I don't know about the nepotism and corruption in KU.

But I do know that it is an excellent alternative to broken TU and its products are quite successful.

So, I say "good job" to those who are running it and don't really care how they run it.

If they deliver good results, more power to them.

One of Suresh Raj Sharma's relative,
he was a graduate from american University 4.0 GPA.
What wrong is there to hire him ? All his batch mates know him.

Now lets get to facts?
who got fired?

Write down five names of five people fired and students of KU themselves will say if the decision was good or bad.

Yes, one thing. I dont like the fees structure of KU seeing the not so good facility provided.

The following posting (see below) about nepotism at TU, which was already well known, has not been solved by politics of unions (TUPTA). Thus introducing unions and teacher/student politics will not resolve the "nepotism" problem at KU either. It will do more damage to KU's quality, reputation, and brand name.

TUPTA's Demand

While restructuring Nepal's old structure, academic institutions should also get top priority. Articles contributed by TU Part Time Teacher's Association (TUPTA) and the victims of The Kathmandu University (KU) have touched this issue time and again. The new government formed after the people's movement must devise a proper mechanism to ensure equal opportunities for all teachers so that those who have capabilities get what they deserve.
However, TUPTA's demand for permanent status to those who have served at least one academic session as part time teacher is quite ridiculous. How can they get a permanent status directly? Instead of asking for a permanent post, they should have asked the government to introduce a better exam system to judge their competence and accordingly award a temporary or permanent post.

Favouritism and nepotism is highly prevalent in TU. Even to get a part time job, one should be the kith and kin of the Department head or some senior teachers.

Now, if all the part time teachers are recruited in this way are given a permanent status, what about the academic excellence of TU? Quality and capability must replace favoritism and nepotism. There must be a proper mechanism to recruit the part time teachers in the Universities.

In this regard, Public Service Commision has rightfully introduced a system of taking an entrance exam. Only those who pass it can appear in the final exam for the post of a Section Officer. Isn't such mechanism necessary to ensure equal opportunities for all in TU as well?

I do not know Sureshraj Sharma but Sitaram Adhikari is brother of Radheshyam Adhikari(Senior Advocate/Current MP in Rajya Sabha/Strong leader in Congress). I do not see any possibility of taking any actions to these two thugs now government is headed by Congress. There is no difference in the people in Congress leadership and mandales. They can shift eitherside. I am not student of KU but people who study there are(most of them except few are gajadis). I know them personally, they never study but get good marks because of good relationship with teachers..........about facility and fees, i have heard that not satisfactory.I think administration and management is not effective.

Hey guys..

You can't blame quality of KU..It is the best in Nepal. Of course we must realize that the inherited quality may be because of doing many research projects rather than contribution of excellent teaching. I am proud of student's motivation.. Again Gajedies are everywhere.
Regarding the before post, qualified academician are always welcomed in KU. There is no such bias for accepting a best one, especially foreign graduates. It is true that, if you are relatives, you could be compromised. I believe, sharma and adhikari are the best chaps till now (among those survived in KU.. he he), even for the future of KU. Yeah there were many who forced to regin.......even whole department members and even school faculties. I don't mean like GIRIJA supporting Ceremonial Sharmatantra, but there is chain of currupts like we say for Nepal army about "jung-thapas". In my openian, faculties should got chance for improving their compitency and to do research independently. They must get liberties in general but not like those relatives of shamrma and adhikari enjoys. Yeah we must reform our KU..making it more democratics.. It is rediculous to say, KU don't have provision for sangha and unions in his constitution.. Change it when we are going to change our national constitution..
God bless KU

Mr AP 98

he he... you want just 5 names..what you mean by fired? there is no such provision of firing someone like in USA. In USA companies have right to hire or fire.. but in deveoping world you must have strong reason rather than saying I don't like them.... so these peoples are fired indirectly by compelling to resign..
There are dozens of peoples.....best academicians in Nepal..
Mechanical eng. computer eng. electronics eng.. had many best on it's history, but they were compelled to leave.
He he.. whole bunch of faculties from pharmacy..
I guess few years back, whole faculties from it's medical school..
Still you want just five heads..
We need democracy in KU

To concerned people about KU,
I know about KUMS and how it started. Many of the founders of KUMS had to leave and only handful of them stayed. KUMS has been compared to Janaki; it has a lot of potential but nepotism and cunning dealings of Suresh Raj Sharma, Sitaram Adhikary, Ram Kantha, Nastu Sharma and Narendra Rana that drove out Arjun Karki has put an end of a promising project.

If you think KU is corrupt; you should see Dhulikhel Hospital, which has a grandiose title of KU Teaching Hospital is a dictatorship run by Ram Kantha and his Personal Assistant, Nastu Sharma. Any person who has worked at this hospital will tell you it is autocratic and not many have left with disgust.
Even more, KUTH should be part of KU but KUTH is dictating KU and these mafia will eventually take over KU which should have been named Bel Prasad University anyway. That name is more accurate than the nation's capital.

May be there are Nepotism, they hire their son daughters and in laws at the time when there were nobody who wanted to take risk with this new job and teaching classes. Hey.... teaching is not just a job, teaching ability is a god-gift. Even if you know the subject matter, it needs guts and dares to stand in front of students for an hour. As far as I know they hire their son because he was available at the time KU was just establishing. Example, is Bhola sir, heard he was working on a good post at NCCN and they requested him a lot before Bhola sir finally agreed to serve KU. Now propaganda says, KU offered job to Bhola sir as he is a neighbor of Suresh raj sharma or sita ram adhikary. That does not make any sense.
My point, whatever is happening is good as every institution should be transparent. yeah, they should in this democratic culture. BUT, that does not mean Name calling to one of the respected person of nation. Suresh Raj Sharma did not become VC by winning any election or by any honorary post given by King or PM or whatever. He is at this position by his own hardship.
Regarding nepotism and corruption,...... Will you give me a name of any organization at least in Nepal which is not free from it?????. That does not mean I am supporting these, but why only KU? why?.......... and WHY NOWWWW?....... why now? why not some 5 years before?????
Because now is the time to change VC post and DR. SURENDRA RAJ KAFLE is trying till death to be VC this time. And he and his company are spreading propaganda so that they will not continue VC post for SUresh R sharma again....... OR at least Registrar post.
The Blog operator of [changeinku.blogspot.com] is Dr. Sameer mani dixit, and he is angry because his fast-friend Boris Niraoula was fired for some unknown reason.
But the conclusion is this is not going good. They have started strikes and pen downs, which will only harm students and ....only students.

Dr. Sameer Dixit is a very talented teacher and researcher, one who could even be a future VC so in response to KUIan, he is not just defending his friend Boris but also KU from being an outdated monarchy who has King like Suresh Raj Sharma and his lynchpin, Sitaram and heir like Ram Kantha and his crony Nastu Sharma. Good luck to brave people like Sameer Dixit I say, if he has the courage to host a website like changeinku - it is just like revolution that took place in Nepal and also needs to happen in KU

Nepalese people have always acted like bhedas to flattering and grandiose speeched such as those by Suresh Raj Sharma: Take for instance when he says KU will do world class research - who does not agree with this? But the truth is KU does not support research and it must be the only university in the world where an administrater (Sitaram the Registrar) is the head of research committee. Suresh Raj can not fool all the people all the time. The bottleneck has exploded now and yes, Surendra Kafle might benefit from this but it has been waiting for a long time now. KUMS founders such as Dr. Arjun Karki, Dr. Saroj Dhital and Dr. Sharad Onta will tell you what Suresh Raj Sharma is really like in words and actions.

Hey Kuien,

I don't think Mr Bhola thapa got the gob beacuse of his capability. He is very very rude person and does not know how to teach. I had very bad experience with Bhola. He is nasty and foolish person. Get rid of him.
