I did not get to watch the clip, but was wondering if Gagan expressed any solution to the Maoists problems. And did he mention anything about how his 'republic' views of Nepal was more inclined towards Communism than Democracy?

But remember Gandhi was a leader too... only difference is he didn't want any posts!!! Did he ever said in that program that he would never go for positions like minister or other political posts???

Prem dai

The basic thing that you should understand is "people" choose the leader. I can not claim to be a leader if there are no people behind me and at this momment, Gagan Thapa, does have people who listen to him and even put their lives at risk for a purpose, unlike YOU and ME who have basically ran away from the real life for sake of our selves and our children.

Gandhi, as far as I know never claimed or said that he was a leader. Leader is the post given by others who follow their wish. Its perfectly fine not to accept Gagan as your leader because of the democratic norms.

The Position or Post is the ultimate destination for any politician to implement the wishes of people. If Gagan Thapa is a true politician he should and MUST get into a position for development and structural changes within the coutry and Nepali Congress.

Prem dai..come out of your box !

"Did he ever said in that program that he would never go for positions like minister or other political posts??? " From the sounds of it, he he he YOU WANT THAT MINISTER OR POLITICAL POST MORE THAN THIS GAGAN DOES.

"If he is a charismatic leader, it would have shown even in 1 minute of his talk."
What makes you an expert in this matter ? Are you god ?

Even if we support Gagan we shouldn't be a victim of one sided blindedness.Prem_dai,you are using your rights in the democratic environment to raise your voice against whatever you disagree.I think its too early to predict what future holds for Gagan.Atleast for the time being he seems to represent fairmindedness and equality. And 80 percent of the time any public figure who fight against tyranny seem to perform better when they are powerless than when they have an access to power.I think we should not endorse anyone prematurely. We can assist them in their fight against evil or fight for a just society.Fight for the right cause takes time.Society has to change itself too.We have change our minds too.Reformation of nepal in no way is like another britney spears wedding. It takes time and takes a lot of courage. It is too early to predict history.

Highfly

Well, your question is right. Why US wants to pick the leaders of other countries?

You seem to be an intelligent guy and still asking the question.

This is not slave mentality, this is business mentality.

I completely agree with highfly,
Highfive man
Shirish I thought you were better than that dude.I told Gagan that the sole reason that US has invited him might be because US now wants to see who ever emerges from any nation be a yes-man to the american policies and US backed UN.Hamid Karzai.Holy crap he is just a puppet.I don't mean to support talibans here. But,US policies are no better than the Britain policies during the colonial era.American imperialism is crumbling.Wake up shirish american century is over.American capitalist ideas have produced greedy consumerism that seem to make poor countries poorer. If Gagan is fighting for fair and peaceful nepal he has to also fight for fair and just world targeted against american policies.Shirish don't be blind.

What is a business mentality? The freedom to operate the business wherever they want and however they want.I have to say I am really sorry to say that we have become ignorant brainwashed by the american might.America is the major obstacle in the process of building an advance third-world society. In the name of corporate culture the have exploited the world's resources human and natural. And who would like to see Gagan or whoever be a rubberstamp for that sort of operation.American governmnt should be held accountable in the ICC for the crimes against humanity.Like we fight for our freedom in Nepal countries like Nepal will have to against naked imperialism one day against worl's rich and powerful that exploit poor and downtrodens.

So he came to USA on invitation of USA... and he was invited as a leader!!! But he claims as if he is no leader. What the fug is this??

I agree with you guys that this may bring the slave mentality.

BUT look from the other side, I mean the US side, they have identified Gagan Thapa as a potential leader of future Nepal and trying to get hold of him.

Does this mean Gagan will become a slave of US. Absolutely NOT.
Do you think the King G has not given him incentives if he shuts up and did he aggred to the deals? Absolutely NOT.
Does Gagan has to agree to what they teach as if he has no logics? Absolutely NOT.

This is not the first time Gagan has gone to attend such Program. He has travelled to Europe with other programs too.

My point is, he has to see the systems, learn from all this kind of experiencing without adversely affecting the integrity and interests of Nepal. The relation he builds can benefit Nepal in different ways. Not necessarily become a slave of US.

Plus in politics, to influence some one is not unnatural too.

Fidel Castro was educated in the US, did he become a slave of the US?

Don't be too naive. We Nepalese have been cheated by Shah dynasty, Rana Shaasan, Political parties, Maoists, so called student leaders. Therefore, we all should always raise bar for these so called to-be-leader guys like Gagan Thapa. Of course, we should put pressure on these guys coz now we can confront them with our knowledge. Today's Nepalese are no more Nepalese of pre-2046BS. Otherwise they will always try to keep you guys BHEDA.

Just see the fun, this Gagan Thapa is already on a move claiming in that talk that he is NO LEADER. Who gonna buy that now?

Prem Dai worte:

He was invited by the Department of the State of US Government, NOT as a LEADER but to teach the leadership qualities that a future leader has to have.

Prem_dai,dai never uses curse word for bhais.Like screwed up~reflects our state of mind~at least not here.Shirish you are trying to be a diplomat here.A leader never seeks support from anyside. He firmly believes his own instincts and works towards that.American education wasn't the sole contributor in castro's stance.Remember he was a protege of Che Guevara who was later killed by the CIA like Madan Bhandari
of Nepal.
I am sorry to see Nepali heads be washed by the superficial american glamour which is cruel at heart.

Manchhe hasaune kura garchha:

"teach the leadership qualities that a future leader has to have". ha ha.. I am sure he is still a student (he is quoted as "student leader" everywhere in Nepal). So now he is going to teach the leadership qaulities that a future leader has to have????

May be there is something wrong withyour grammar. May be you are trying to say that US invited him to teach him the leadership qualities. But he himself says he is no leader!!!
