Marwari community wants their representation in interim parliament Marwari community has also demanded their share in the forthcoming interim parliament, which is to be formed after the promulgation of interim constitution. Speaking at the national convention of Nepal National Marwari Council, its acting chairman Atma Ram Murarka said that the community, too, has decided to enter into politics and demanded at least two seats for the community in the interim legislature. Deputy Prime Minister Amik Sherchan, addressing the concluding session of the council, assured the representation of Marwari community in the interim parliament. Marwari community is a leading business community of the country. The interim parliament has been proposed to include 330 members – 48 of whom will be nominated to represent various organisations and communities. nepalnews.com sd Jan 06 07 aba dekhyo ta raja birodh garna yini haru kina agadi ayeko hola. aba dekhyo ta jaat anusar ko thau magda bideshi le pani magda raichan bhanera.

a country with aproper identity.............this is what happens................all nepalese ethnic groups are slowly demanding their own state.............and independence.......Nepal is going to be like the pre united state...before His majesty King Prithivi Narayan Shah united us.....................हामी एक हौ , now everyone is so insecure that they want to hand around their own cast and religion , WE were overcomming intercast marriage, our neigbors are all from different ethnic backgrounds...but They are all Nepali................Now no one trusts anyone........every one wants to be secure in their circle and demand that or threaten with voilence..................Voilence has been our national language now a days....................I dont care what anyone thinks But Our olny Savior is our KING who can save the Nation into breaking into peices.......

Yes King Can save but They do not. They are busy enjoying. Thats why we are first from behind. What King needs when he is so rich. Can't he pay tax like poor Nepalese. Even US president pays tax. FORGET KING, LIVE WITH REALITY. Thers is nothing wrong if Marwari wants representative they are part of Nepalese economics. PS. I am not Marwari.

do some research ...........aman....................remember the people stripped the power from the king decades ago.........................Hey the kings family formed Nepal...they united Nepal....they Own Nepal historically.....so I dont have any problems how a king lives.....A king should live in Luxury.......who is stopping you from doing so......???????? Recently when King Gyanendra took over power.........look what has happened .........the politican parties gave birth to maoists ....corruption, extortion and blame went all to the King........decades of dirt these political leaders created was expected for the king to remove in a second..??????.............and how easily our Nepalese people followed the same leaders who has been running the country , lying to them and has been chased out of the seat many times....../.........You talk about reality AMAN look whats happening...........Nepal will no longer be a whole Nepal ...it is becoming into peices and India is looking for that chance.........A broken up fighting Nepal........soon we will all loose our Identity.............thats the reality we are facing if we continue to follow these corrupt leaders...........it is a good thing that the marwari wants to be recognized for their contribution in nepalese business............but why are they complaining they are all so rich ?????...............this was never a case when the king had just a little power..... now he has nothing......and Nepal is dying.

Many Nepalis go to America. They settle down there. They work hard to get their Green Cards and their US Citizenship cards. They then BECOME Americans -- in the eyes of the US law and in terms of being accorded all the privileges and the rights and the freedom from discrimination that US citizenship grants. Sure, some of those Nepalis may choose to be hyphenated Americans . . . as in Nepali-Americans, and that's fine. The point is: Regardless of their national origins, or regardless of whether they are are from Arghakhachi or Syangja, they become Americans. They do NOT have to prove themselves to be Anericans again and again and again! BUT Many of Nepal's well-known Marwaris have been living in Nepal for at least two, if not more, generations. These Marwaris speak Nepali, Newari and many other Nepal-specific languages fluently (along with Hindi and other languages). These Nepali Marwaris HOLD Nepali citizenships. They RUN Nepali businesses, and hire Nepali workers. They PAY taxes to the Nepal government. They just look different . . . maybe darker than many hill-Nepalis . . . as in, they look, well Marwari-like. Maybe that's why many of our more-patriotic-than-thou Nepali brothers and sisters NEVER consider these Nepali Marwaris to be pukka Nepali citizens. Like Hindu fundamentalists do to Muslims in India, such more-patriotic-than-thou Nepalis always put these Nepali citizens of Marwari descent under a cloud of suspicion for no reason. The big question: Who IS a Nepali indeed, when the country we call Nepal itself is -- for the lack of a better phrase -- a mongrel nation: a confluence of various ethnic groups from all over the Central Asia . . . from present-day Afganistan to present-day Burma, from present-day Mangolia to present-day South India. The point of all this? Better to celeberate Nepal's ethnic diversity for what it is, and to make sure that all ethnic groups (Nepali Marwaris included) do have valid political mechanisms to air their grievances in a non-military manner in the New Nepal than to continue to divide Nepalis into various camps by raising doubts about other groups' Nepali credentials and their loyalties to Nepal. Let the Nepali Marwaris have their representations. Let other ethnic groups too have their representations! oohi "a hill bahun with recent ancestors from present-day palpa/lamjung" ashu

ansu, having citizenship does not mean theat they should have representation, can you give a single example if these MADWARIS would ever have their voice for the majority of nepalese, all they know is bsiness and they have a good capture in economic and commercial sectors of nepal (the khetan groups) and i hope thats where they should represent. why not we have RPP representating (kamal thapa, tulsi giri also have citizenship) why not JTMM representating (they also have citizenship). if marwaris represent a place in singadurbar, i guess they will bring singadurbar to Newroad, so that they can continue their business

hkman....................this current situation is to blame for people like you who cant get enough of the a)sslicking of the corrupt government......at least 10 years ago everyone could travel anywhere in Nepal without being scared or being robbed.............without the Shah dynasty I wonder where your family history had come from??????.....hadnt the Shah dynasty united Nepal as one and fought off the invaders...we wouldnt have any identity ............I support the King..have I benifitted from it ???.....I guess I have to call my self the true Nepalese blood who is worried that our country is braking up....unlike you ...........you would rather lick Girija or any leadersballs in the name of peace and unity of Nepal......look around you fool and do some news reading and find out how every ethinic group is now breaking away form being a Nepali first...I guess this makes people like you happy.....but for me It is SAD.

Well said, Ashu. And new Nepal shall have that mechanism, simply because it must, for it's survival if not for anything. And all the fuss we are hearing/witnessing is a stage/part of the process. A change of this scale and nature can not happen "quietly". That said, we do have a potentially disastrous inefficiency and limbo at the center. We still have, after 9 long months since April Revolution, two states, two armies, two resolves (or lack thereof) and a lot of uncertainties in the middle. All of these should have been resolved a long time ago. I mean, what is left ? The King has surrendered. Monarchy is dead. Maoists were/are ready to dissolve their army any day if the country is declared republic. However, our Nobel Peace prize worthy leader, who does not recognize anything but guns, wants us to believe that the King still has access to the gun and that somehow means republic is out of question for now and so Maoists' refusal to disarmament in that case is also something we have no choice but to accept. Whatever, Koiralajee. However, the reality is that until the time we manage to have a single national army in the country (by dissolving one of the armies or integrating them together), political process will be pre-dominantly "len-den" between the Maoists and others in power; people's grievances and particularly the "valid political process" to address them that we are talking about is not going to get the focus it deserves. And it does not seem to be happening before the first session of the Constituent Assembly will take place. So taken all together, the sooner we conduct (even if it is in the atmosphere of fear and intimidation !) the election of CA, the sooner we will reach to an era of peaceful political process for all our problems and grievances. Nepe wishful for what SHOULD be, mindful for what MIGHT/WILL be.

Nepe - This delay can prove to be detrimental to the credibility of democracy - I am with you there. The home minister says the interim statute is coming soon. I can only hope they do this right - the consequences of screwing this one up will be catastrophic for the country. Ashu - Well said. If we want to become a functioning democracy, we can't do so without learning to tolerate those of us who are different from the rest of us. And yes, these marwaris, at least very many of them , are our own people. As red-blooded a Nepali as you can get.

Recently I have been disturbed by a simple question. How should I prove myself as a Nepali? My language, my religion, my citizenship ,.....? Beside the political boundary, is there any other thing that identifies us as Nepali? Then who is more patriotic? Someone who thinks themselves as a citizen and want some sort of representation on law making process. wants their voice to be heard in a legitimate way. Or the people asking for separate state (Madesh seems to be foremost in the race) for their community because they believe they are oppressed. In this modern days, people interact and depend on a wider social network than they used to do few decades before. With zero tolerance and respect toward other community, race or caste, you still have conflicts until you make every person an independent country. Each family a country would not work because my family favors my elder brother; he is more intelligent than me.
