Kantipur Report KATHMANDU, July 29 - A Captain of Nepal Army has meted out severe physical torture to officer and a constable of the Police Headquarters. Captain Rabindra Bikram Rana and some soldiers of the Bhairabhnath Battalion at Maharajgunj have severely beaten and given even electric shocks to Inspector Ram Bahadur KC, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Dharmendra Ray and constable Dil Bahadur Tamang of the Police Headquarters, reported our correspondent Jitendra Sah. With bruises all over their body and faces, KC and Ray are undergoing treatment at the Birendra Police Hospital while Tamang has been admitted to the Bir Hospital. The incident followed a minor argument between Captain Rana and his friend Bikendra Bista and the seven-member police team over a wrongly parked vehicle at Thamel early Saturday morning (around 1:45 am). According to eyewitnesses, Captain Rana and his friend Bista started misbehaving with the police team when it reminded them that their vehicle (a red Gipsy) was wrongly parked on the road in front of the Sanchay Kosh building at Thamel. The police team took Bista under control when he started hitting them with punches. Captain Rana, however, managed to flee. The police team then took Bista to the Durbarmarg Ward Police Office for necessary investigation. Police were still interrogating Bista when over two dozen armed soldiers in full uniform came in two army vehicles from the Bhairabhnath Battalion and surrounded the police office, threatening to hand over Bista, Inspector KC, ASI Ray and constable Tamang to them. A police officer at the Durbarmarg Police Office said, they handed Bista and the three policemen to the soldiers to avoid any untoward incident. Then the soldiers dragged the policemen to their vehicle and took them to the barracks. The three policemen were handed to the Maharajgunj Ward Police Office after hours of thrashing and physical torture at the army battalion. There are bruises all over their bodies and faces. They claim that they were tossed and dragged through dirty water at the army barracks and beaten severely. Police constable Tamang has claimed that he was given electric shocks at the army barracks. Meanwhile, army officials said the case was under investigation and action will be taken against Captain Rana if he is found guilty. KANTIPURONLINE.COM................ THOUGHT ALL THE SAJHA PEOPLE NEED TO READ THIS..............THE BRUTALITY OF SO CALLED ROYAL NEPALESE ARMY... PEACE

I hope this kind or Army mentality ends soon in Nepal. Army have been doing these kind of work forever in Nepal. They need to change such acts. The " buzz " or Royal maddness is still not over in Nepal Army.

What kind of news is this? When dogs bark, it shouldn’t be reported as ‘news’. Mercenaries of Nepali Army are no good for anything else. So they beat of innocent people.

Just because 'royal' is removed from nepal army, doesn't mean that it has changed. They are still the royal boot lickers. That's why the whole system need to be changed from inside out. The army men think they can still rule...

This seems to be very common among the nepalese Army. Be in football match or in elsewhere. This is because govt. does not take any actions among the erring officers and the kind of impunity they get makes them to think as if they can do anything and everything they wish. These erring officers of Army of whatever ranks they may be, must be punished with stringent laws and rest of the army should know that what will be the consequences of committing such actions again in the future. This is not first time, that we are hearing it.......this is blatant violation of duty discarging police officials' rights to life and dignity.

Is there any kind of rule in Nepal? What these army think of themselves? Having gun does not mean they can do anything. They just didn't torture policemen, they broke the law by attacking police station. They are suppose to be law protector. These armies should be suspended without any investigation. NO EXCUSE should be given to these armies. Should be put into jail for at least 10 years so that every other army can learn the lesson. If this case was closed without any action then whole battalion should be dismissed. Jai Nepal.

That army captain should be definately punished !!! but remember these kinds of incidents are due to insanity of few officer. Going that route and calling whole institution bad doesn't make sense there are good captains and there are bad .Even in US these incidents occur. Some mao supporter are coming here and again channting what their papa prachada told them. how discipline is maoist themselves????They do not even listen to their commander .When commander says we will followe code of conduct but thier cadres still loot and display their weapons and intimidate ordinary people.Beat and kill innocent. SAME AS above..So mao supporters you guys go home and come here once you do your home work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nepal Army should be completely dismanteled (like the former Iraqi Army). Now I dont wonder why Prachanda wanted to see it gone.
