Parties suspend protest programmes for Dashain

The seven-party alliance has decided to suspend its protest programmes during Dashain.

?We have decided that we will not be organising any protest programmes during Dashain as everyone has to celebrate the Nepalis' biggest festival,? Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, spokesperson of the Nepali Congress, told Nepaleyes.

He, however, said that activities like campaigning and distributing pamphlets will go on as scheduled.

He further said the next phase of the protest programmes will be announced only after the festivals.

We have complained about the Royals which I understand BUT we also complain about the politicians why? because we elected them? People bitch about them all the time, and yet nobody comes forward to do a better job. Maybe it's not the politicians that suck... maybe it's the people? There aren't any good politicians because the pool to choose from sucks just as much.

Its easy to point fingers but hard to swallow the fact.

Has anyone met him personally?Well it is easy to judge someone sitting infront of the monitor than to really understand the current situation.In my own personal experience and interaction with Gagan,he is the most idealist young figure at the present.At the same time he tends to realistic about Nepal.The only fear that I have is if he compromises for power he will turn out to be a forgotten pop-icon.

Just watched Gangan's interaction with other Nepali communities in Boston.. He indeed is good orator. He has that quality to lead the people but I am not sure would he be able lead the country or not.

BC, US atleast went to the supreme court. Nepal dont' even do that. Just ause it happened in US doesn't mean it has to happen in rest of the world.

I totally agree with you on putting pressure on this Gagane to let him understand how bad is this practice of closing schools/colleges in Nepal in the name of protests.

It's like putting pressure on Pushakr Shah while he was in USA. Pushkar almost settled in USA... but thanks to Sajha, the threads on Pushkar Shah in sajha.com generated lot of pressure on Pushkar Shah and his associated not to bullshit about his yatra and chased him out of USA so that he would do what he says he will do.

Now, in regards to this Gagan Thapa... we need to exert similar kind of pressure to make sure that he will return Nepal. Not only that ask him NOT TO CLOSE THE SCHOOLS, BUT OPEN THE SCHOOLS if they have to protest.. Best thing is to open the schools on Saturday and Sunday as well. Instill the sense of education which is the prime necessity for the development of the country. Ask all the schools to open SAY #) Days stright, or TWO WEEKS stright without taking rest. In this way, the curriculum will be completed each year with no hindrance, and more and more educated people will be produced with proper degrees, that alone will put lot of positive pressure on the so called leaders of the country.
