Former govt secy commits suicide

KATHMANDU, June 9 - Dinesh Chandra Pyakurel, a former government secretary and former director of Melamchi Water Supply Project, committed suicide Thursday morning, police said.
Sources said his name was going to feature in a charge sheet being brought out by the Royal Commission for Corruption Control this Friday.

After Feb. 1, Pyakurel had been put in the reserve pool. (yv)

Royal move is the great move..... it is positive and it is only the way to go....

Corrupt, crooks and criminals must be killed like that.....

This is not sucidal. It is a life punishment.

Wish all the corrupt leaders and beurocrats will follow the same path.. punish themselves... so that government will not have to spend our tax money on finding them and punishing themselves....

Well today he commited suicide and it becomes breaking news.. where was the media and reporters that want to publish breaking news.. when his corruption killed 100s of nepalis...A project that was finalized for 46 billion was cancelled and re contracted for 96 billion... still media reports him and his collagues as heroes rather than villians... have you ever wondered how many nepalese were deprived of food because of this corruption of almost 50 billions...

In fact, he committed another crime, as sucide is also a crime, isn't it. But, it is never a rational punishment, because a person doesn't exist alone. Whoever s/he is, it is difficult for the one who stays back e.g. family, friends and neighbours. I don't think this event is a punishment for him, rather more than punishment. If he would be in jail, his wife wouldn't be a widow or?

I worked for Khanepani Bibhag for five years. Mr. Pyakurel was Deputy
Director General. He was a friendly, witty, and elegant person. As a
district engineer, I had to communicate with him in a regular basis.

While I had serious disagreements and heated discussions with him to the point we
hated each other, he was a skilful engineer and a dynamic administrator.

His untimely death is a big loss to society. May his soul rest in peace.

Having known him in his capacity as the secretary of the Ministry of Industry Commerce and Supplies, I am terribly saddened to hear this news. He may have been corrupt and in fact the punishment he chose for himself and his family may indeed prove that he was corrupt, but I think in his death he has left behind an unprecedented example of the conscience outweighing the will to fight the easy fight in a society where moral probity is an exception rather than the rule.

Two possibilities

1. He was not corrupt at all and could not tolerate the charges. If its true, too sad for the untimely and demise of an engineer.

2. He was corrupt (everybody is corrupt with certain degree) indeed and could not face the charges with dignity. If it's true, good for him and the society.

When I was at KhanePani in Lalitpur District, his
office was on the other side of the wall. He was the regional
director, and when he used to enter or leave in good mood,

I guess we are forgetting the chance of some conspiracy here... What if Shere or Prakash man hired some assasin to kill him.... after all all gundas and dacoits are in politicians hand....he consumed poison and then cut his both hand with blade... it looks suspicious... bottom line is we should let his self punishment go waste... Deuba and prakash man should be punished too....

If he was not corrupt then its a sad day for the country.
If he was corrpt then more should follow his foot step as self punishment/ reward.

If he is not corrupt, there is no reason for him to suicide. An innocent person doesn't resort to kill himself just for false allegations. अपराध नै नगरीकन कसैले दोष लगाउँदैमा मान्छेले आत्महत्या गर्ने सम्भावना म देख्दिन।

I understand your point. Let's suppose he was guilty of corruption and saw some solace with his ongoing mental torture by taking his own life.

Lets suppose (with very little and remote possibility) that he is totally innocent and lived a very frugal life totally dependent on his "sarkari" talab. This would have put him in a vey difficult. he would have faced many difficulies and made lots of compromise with his own and families' life. He would have put limits in his social engagements and maintained only a narrow circle of friends etc etc...

Despite social norms (corruption is norm), he tried to keep his honesty and maintained his integrity and kept his sanity intact (against the unethical and corrupt workd that surrounded him).

What I mean is, he maintained a very disciplined, principled and dignified life. To such a principled and disciplined person, if the govt. or whom so ever tries to taint his well maintained (self) image, the psychological affect would be severe, in this case fatal.
He basically suffered severe severe depression and became suicidal and took his own life.

This is just a possibilty, even though its remote.

I was myself in the govt. job and its was highly impossible to maintain the basics of life with the salary alone. So your(s) , mine assumption of corrupt govt. officials are not baseless.

He was Director of Melamchi project and involved in corruption. Regarding Melamchi corruption read recent issue of Nepal weekly.

Shirishji, he is a secretary, मन्त्रालयको सचिब। चानेचुने मान्छे हो र ? सबभन्दा बढि तलब खाने राष्ट्र सेवक हो उहाँ। And to my knowledge, he has been on the position of a ministry secretary from quite a long time.

I understand your sentiments but you should realise that this particular person is nowhere in the situation that he should kill himself for false allegations.
