I have a US undergrad degree with 5 years of experience in IT.  After living here for 8 years I still don’t have green card and with the current economy, it does not look like I’ll get one soon.  I’ve applied for Canada PR and would like some info about Canada.  How is it different from US and most important, how difficult it is to get job on my field?  If anyone has any experience they would like to share than it will be good help for me.

Thanks.

Jonny, I hear you. It is better to go after security, which comes with permament residency to some extent, rather than remain in limbo for ever. Been there, seen that. With your degree and experience, you should be able to find a decent job.

Since I've been working on H1, I applied through the new Albert AINP program.  If you have one year US work experience and are on H1 you qualify.

Jonny,

My sister moved to Toronto in September and she had jobs lined up.I applied for her jobs, and so did she. We applied for all the jobs that would fit her in Carrierbuilder and monster and also other sites like:

http://www.workopolis.com/work.aspx?action=Transfer&View=Content/Common/WorkLoginView&lang=EN&theme=work

http://www.211toronto.ca/index.jsp

www.monster.ca

www.carrierbuilder.ca

http://www.jobbank.gc.ca

and many more....search on the internet and you will find them. They also have neighbourhood link (named as such) from canadian gov where they help you get trained on how to answer interview questions and make a great resume. You don't have to pay anything. It is a class they give you for free. This is available in canada almost in every city...toronto aswell.

It is just like US, It all depends on how persistant you are to find jobs. Personally what I found is " Toronto doesnot have  too many nepalis who  explored enough job opportunities. My 2 weeks experience may be short but meeting  with people over there made me feel that people who have just come from Nepal have difficulties finding jobs. They settle with lower level jobs but if you have patience, persistancy and some money to survive for 3-4 months without working just to be on safe side, then you can get jobs you want as per your qualification. Market is just like in US. You apply for jobs, they call for interviews, if you prove on interview they offer jobs right away.

Rent and living expenses are expensive for sure in comparison to USA. Regarding jobs I think it all matters in what is your qualification and how good is your resume to catch eyes. Public transportaion is Great. I didnot find Nepalis in Toronto that helpful. Life is fast and it is same like USA except that it is a little too expensive. Goodluck.

Since you have worked in H1B in USA, I don't thibk it will take long for your application. If you pay upfront all teh fees, you maynot even have to go for interview and they will mail your greencard/residency within 6/7 months.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hello All,

For New Albert AINP program, from the best of my knowledge, there are only 5 forms that need to be filled (including AINP 009) and send it to Albert Canada.

I don't see any other requirements such as police certificates, FBI or from Nepal/Native country) or ay application fees.

Can someone share there experience, what are the 'upfront fees' for this application? or any other documents that need to be in consideration?

Thanks,

Once you get approve from Alberta province, they(Alberta ainp) will sent your document to Canada immigration and there you'll need to submit all the documents like FBI clearance, photo, fee etc.  Remember you get PR from Canada gov not Alberta province.  Upfront fee are the same as point or other system.

Palpali Kancha,

FBI Police Clearance does all the work. Get the papers from Office Depo or local police station  for finger print and send it to FBI. You don't have to get 10 different police report from each state. Actually it is very simple process and if you read the instructions, it explains everything in detail.

Goodluck!

Once you apply through Alberta program, how long do you have to live there? Is there a year limitations?

You will require to submit state clearance certificate. This is a new rule recently introduced. New applicant applying from USA must submit State clearance certificate from all the states where he/she had resided for more than 6 months since his/her 18th birthday.

You don't have too. I didn't submit it,  I got the approval. I was also confused about it, in the middle when I had already submitted the documents so I  wrote the message to get peoples views.  Later I decided not to send any  state certificate.
