Hi guys!

I am a full-time undergrad. student in a F-1 visa. I am planning to go back Nepal during summer this year, and I am going to graduate on December this year.

My concern is, this is the first time I am going back home after I came to the United States, and I have no idea how easy is it,these days, to apply for re-entry visa to the United States Consulate in Kathmandu. I have been hearing a lots of stories regarding the difficulties for re-entry, even for those students who have maintained their status during their stay in USA.

I am sure, many of you guys have prior experience with the situation like me. Could you please give me some advice and suggestions! What documents should I take with me, is getting re-entry visa for a student like me is easy, should you recommend me to travel at this point as I am going to graduate on December this year????

Any help of yours is highly appreciated!

Thanks!

i would not recommend you to totally rely on the posts in an internet forum...
but as an international student myself, you should know that you should make your international advisor sign your I-20 before you leave the country.
as for reapplying for a visa, that depends on when your visa expires. if it expries this summer then you should obivously reapply, but if you visa extends until u finsih your graduation, then i don't think you need to reapply again, since your visa is already valid till december (or whenever).
no matter waht, you must still talk to your international advisor or a school official.

Hi lfc123,

Many thanks for your kind reply.

I agree with you that I should not rely solely on this kinda forum for my situation. Yes, International Student Advisor in my college is the right person to talk with and get help for this matter, which I have been doing. I know, that Int. Student Advisor is the ultimate savior in my case, but it does not harm having an additional suggestions from a student like me, especially a situation like me and being a Nepali student.

My VISA will expire on December 2006, so like you said, I am fine with it, as I don't have to reapply for VISA. However, I am wondering what happens after that- like if I am going to have either OPT or I will continue my Masters Degree- so long as VISA is concerned.

Well, hoping more suggestions from fellow students in Sajha.

Thanks!

if you want to do OPT or do grad school, then you can extend your visa from here. you dont' have to go back to nepal. i know people who have done that. although i dont' know the process of extending your visa.
