i have travelled through this route many times. it depends upon the flight details. are you staying over in delhi and flying to ktm next day or is it just a transit? if it is just a transit then once you have put all the electronic equipment in your baggage and checked in at usa then it is automatically transferred to small aircraft at changeover point in delhi to fly onwards schedule to ktm.
baggage are stored in a small container which are numbered individually so for passenger travelling to delhi and ktm all their baggage are stored in individual container , when you arrive at delhi airlines simply just transfer the container of baggage which belongs to pax travelling to ktm and rest will be sent through the conveyer towards the terminal for the pax alighting in delhi.
here is what you can do to make sure that your baggage wont get opened.
all airlines have duty to care for your belonging while in their custody. so when you first get your baggage checked in usa make sure you tell them that there are lots of items which can break so you want your luggage to be classified as FRAGILE....and makesure that they put on a fragile sticker and repeat to them at least three times saying that there are breakable items of sentiment value.
now this will create a whole lot of new problem for the airlines ...which means that now your baggage will be placed in a frigile container together with first class and business class pax ( there is no way that business class pax and first class pax luggage will be broken into as their container needs to be opened only by the ground supervisor at the airport hence safe guarding you valuables also
so bottom line is @@@ WHEN CHECKING IN MAKE SURE YOU DECLARE YOUR BAGGAGE AS FRAGILE EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT ...THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO BEAT THE DHOTI CHORMARA SYSTEM....HAN HAN HAN HAN DHOTI LAI HAN...
