I have an entry visa stamped that is valid for the next 5 years. My question is: If I leave the country, but have my employer write me a letter, saying that I work for them, would I be able to come back on my opt?

I am confused because I wouldnt have to visit the embassy in Nepal - but I dont know how they would treat you at the airport when i enter. any insights would be much appreciated.

If  I am not mistake, then You should be able to enter the US , If u have maintain UR status during stay, Have valid visa during the time of entry and ur I-20 , signed by ur international advisor. U don't even need a job or employemnt, But it is alwyas a big plus. However, looking at recent conditions and change in so many rules and regulations, it would be better you check with your advisor.

Now you never know of these people at enetry. They deserver the right to deny your entry although you have all required documents.

Thanks

once you get your OPT ur I-20 is not valid anymore and OPT does not guaranty a re-entry.

Puchi,

I have seen discussions on sajha on same situation before. Many people who had similar situation like you--currently on OPT, working, and have a valid visa--had travelled out of the US while on OPT and entered without any hassle. However, you need to have an employment letter clearly stating that you are on their payroll or working for them and will continue working for them even after your vacation abroad.

However, this is just an insight; to get more accurate and precise info on this, please consult your college international advisor or an immigration atorney. Hope this helps. Good Luck!
