Hello freinds,
Do you know how long you can get CPT ( Curriculum Practical Training) and do you have to attend school while you do your CPT.
Thanks in advance to clearify my question
Thank you again

1. Students must have maintained F-1 status for one academic year to be eligible for CPT.

2. Part-time CPT is 20 hours a week or less. If done during school year, must maintain full time status. It has no effect on OPT.

3. Full-time CPT is more than 20 hours a week. If you do more than 12 months of full-time CPT, you lose your OPT option.

4. You need to be attending your school even when you are on CPT, else you lose your status. But you can talk to your professors and see if they will let you do self study, without attending the class, provided that you doo all assigbnments, projects and labs and appear in the exam as others do. They mostly let you do so. Its your job to convince that you will do well in studies.

If you have already graduated, and again enrolled for a different degree, you should be able to do.

You cannot start your CPT in your new major until you complete at least a semester. If you are going into higher degree in a same major, of course you can. It all depends on professor, if he/she allows you to go in CPT or not. Since your professor has to mention that the CPT is required in order to complete your degree, your nature of work at your CPT must be directly related to your major. Your professor and your Int'l student advisors are the ones who approve/reject your CPT, so its better to talk to them and convince them the need for CPT.
