When I was studying in Delhi, one of friends had a very old motorbike that was always breaking down. One day he came to college in a brand new shiny motorcycle and we were like wow! Nice bike. He said he had painted the bike, put new seats etc. Basically all the accessories on this bike was new but next day the bike had a break down that is when another Indian friend of mine said “Budi ghodi lal lagaam” (old horse, new clothes). I looked at him and he said “bro, what runs a bike is the engine and not the accessories, he prettied the bike up but the primary part of the bike was still them same”. Why this entire story you ask?

I look at Nepal and the situation reminds of that phrase my Indian friend had used “Budi ghodi lal lagaam”. With the new developments going on in Nepal all of us are excited and we are thinking this time is different. Girja announced to change everything national anthem, army’s name etc. Good right. Well I don’t think so. What makes democracy is the people not anthems or names. They are the engines, so leaving people like Girja, MaKuNe, Baburam, Prachande et al. who are either looters or murders, in the picture to run the country means nothing has changed. “Just a bhudi ghodi lal lagaam”

We need people who think about jobs, infrastructures, development, and industrialization, not people who think changing the national anthem, saying Nepal is no more a hindu country, changing the Nepal army’s name etc is bringing big changes to Nepal.

Just my two cents.

Here is what it is. The old engine of Nepal was not running. It was consuming way too much resources hurting the other part of the body. Now people have decided to halt the engine and engage in discussion and election of whether to keep the old engine and replace it with new one. The election is so called constitutional elections.

Wanna keep the old engine? Sure the people who where benefiting from the old engine like Tulsi Giri, Kamal thapa and mandales say yes. Wanna repair it and keep running? GP and others for Ceremonial King say yes. People like Prachanda and majority of people involved in Janaandolan II say no that old engine does not work, it has hurt a lot of others. It does not worth a penny now. There is no compromise. We need new engine.

Thats what the discussion about the Constitutional Assembly is all about.

My 2 Cents.

I am not sure if Prachanda and Baburam are the solution (so called new engines). They just seem exactly like the engines that have failed us in the past. I always beleived in life there are two paths to get to the same goal. One is the right path and the other the wrong path. By path I don't mean the number of ways. There could be a 100 ways to resolve a problem but all will either fall into the right path or the wrong path. Now you tell me killing 20,000 people to tell the world that our system isn't working isn't the right way. Baburam and Prachanda looked for the easiest way to get to center stage of Nepal politics. They used poor people by showing them dreams. Beleive me they are dreams because Prachanda and Baburams are among the privileged familes in Nepal. People born with such privilages should not be allowed to talk about hunger or poverty. Its a joke to them. Poor people are just a tool for them.

Instead of giving them the country they should be tried in court (just like Saddam) for the killings of those 20' thousand Nepalis. If they are ever called freedom fighters whats wrong with Saddam calling himself one and Hilter too.

I muse over it all the time but yet to comprehend !
Please somebody expalin it to me in as simple term as you can!
1) This current situation was brought about by the people of today. So what the hell is the parliament that was elected years ago ( with the views of people back then, should I add) still doing trying to pass all these bills and make regulations? Do they even have that authority?
2) Wasn't the problem going to be solved with a Constiutent Assembly? I don't have any problem with secular state and curtailing of kings power I basically support them but does the rest of the country aligned with that idea also? What if the CA decides that Secular state clause is quite not acceptable or if it wants to give more power to king than that has already been taken? Are we going to give it back to him or do we just not make that option available for the ballot in the first place?
3) If the Maoist want to join the mainstream politics, why in the good god's name do they still want to keep a standing army? Why don't they recognize the present authority since they were also the part of the demonstration that lead to the current situation? Why do they still think themselves as a separate force to be reckoned with? .........??

Most of u guys who live abroad, ride a nice car to work, eat three times a day and live in a air conditioned house and yet act to care about how Nepal should be run and all. And u guys have ur own ideas that u think should be followed for Nepal as well. U dont care if the plan will work or not but yet u all still think things should be run ur ways back home. Reminds me of a proverb " Gahira ma ghar hune lai pahira ko dar, daanda ma ghar hune lai laaaada ko dar" je bhandiye pani bhai haylo ni aafu nabasne bhayepachi.

Biggy Small,

I don't think there is any point in arguing about how maoists paved their way through. Bottom line is, they are into the limelight now, and the only way to sort out all the differences is by reconciliation, mutual trust and co-operation. I think that is the best solution to mend the broken engine of Nepal.

Nails,

I chose to remain behind the curtains for sometime, it was my choice. See how selfish I am! :P. And no, I have not forgotten the momo date. Anytime dear! Just make sure that you are 18 though :P. Take care!
