here is a new kind of poem from me. yas maa jiskaune kura chhaina ni. part of my inspiration was surendras's poem in the photo kabita thread- "palpa mero aakha maa". but i think mine still fits under the category of "bad poetry"....anyway, enjoy everyone! in less than a week, i will be back in nepal!!!!! :)

"Meri Pyari Palpa"
Sapana maa meri pyari Palpa laai dekhne
Tyahaa ko yaad aaunda yasto kabita lekhne
Samjhi samjhi mero mutu maa rakheko
Palpa jilla le chahi malai pheri daakeko
Aglo aglo pahaar haru ra Srinigar danda
Magar kura bolne, Palpa ko gaun tira jaanda
Tansen bazaar, Kali Gandaki, ra Ranighat
Kati hariyo hunechha, hamro ramro Madi phat
Bhai bahini haru ka kati dherai maya lagyo
Uni haru laai samjhanda chahi aasu ta bagyo
Kaksha kota maa basda, uniharu le kati hasaunthiyo
Ani saajha maa dal bhat ko kati mitho baas aaunthiyo!
Chutti pachhi "bholibal" (volleyball....(;-D) khelthiye, sathi haru sanga
Chirtungdhara gaabisa taychha ngo pyaro langa*
Palpa ta kati sundar, kati shanta, meri pyari maya, la.
Tyahaa sadhai hune ho, Annapurna ko chhaya maa....

*Maile ta Nepali maa rhyming garna nasakera alikati Magur kura pani halnu pareko chhu. "Taychha" bhanneko "bhanneko" ani "ngo" (read as "no" not as n.g.o.!) bhanneko "mero" ani "langa" bhanneko "gaun". Tyasaile maile ke lekhna/bhanna khojeko bhane, "Chirtungdhara gaabisa bhanneko mero pyaro gaun...." Sorry I ran out of Nepali words that rhyme....

She's a tiger and a bunny,
A rascal and a lout.
In hiding when it's sunny,
A cat who likes to pout.

She's timid and she's sulky,
A swaggering fluffy chump.
She's trickier than Loki,
Or else she's just a clump.

Her hair is soft and silky
Her eye is green and glows
Her undercoat is milky
She's got a terra-cotta nose.

My friends think she's a treasure,
But they're a bunch of fools;
Since once she takes your measure,
She sits on you, and drools.

ahile chahi hasaune kura malai tyatti aayena....ahile ta mero man ali dukhi chha....

everyday, on my way to work, i walk by rows of marigolds.
and all i can think about is nepal.
i remember my bhais and bahinis coming to school,
their glowing faces full of happiness and life.
flowers in their hands- or for the bahinis, in their hair.
and then in my hands. or behind my ear.
and then there's tihar.
when my heart melts for amrita bahini.
yes, everyday, i see marigolds.
and all i can think about is nepal.
and how i'm not there....

The last poem by palpali daju can not be in this thread.
